What are your thoughts on women dressing modestly?

I assume yoga pants are always super tight.

But I don’t do yoga so what do I know?

I wear joggers…never gotten my clothes stuck in a machine before

Joggers are good pants all around… they can be decent casual wear as well…A well fitting pair of joggers is on the same level as a pair of jeans for me.

The first style of yoga pant I ever had had a fold down waist and were slightly flared at the ankle. I’ve owned looser ones but they would always get caught on leg machines. I nearly fell into another machine once even though I thought I was clear of the machine; I don’t need to have my eye gouged out because men can’t keep custody of their eyes.

Why are pants immodest?
Sorry, but this is a certain cultural position and has nothing to do with catholizism.
Women in the middle east, for example, wear traditionally often pants. No cultures really famous for their lack of modest dress.

Right? I don’t think any of the older ladies in my parish wear skirts or dresses to Liturgy.,

I wear properly fitting clothes - not too tight; not too loose. No cleavage showing, no VPL, I don’t think I have to wear a denim skirt down to my ankles to be “modest”.

Well, if they’re being used for the purpose of doing yoga or other workouts
Very true Tis_Bear, it’s all about context…A bikini at the beach, yoga pants in the gym. The point I was trying to make is: you can do sports without tight-fit clothing. You’ll see this twisted in that some take [@Bruised_Reed cough cough] tight-fits and sports as synonymous. This is not correct, and reveals lack of true sports culture. I’ve trained with Olympic athletes that would neveruse tight-fits. And they’ve been using those machines for decades without any issue.
The PT or instructor need to see my form to make needed corrections.
I don’t know what a PT is. [With sport and religion I’ll take the Ferrari.] I only know instructors that dedicated a lifetime to the practice of an art/sport. They can spot any corporal incorrection a mile away with baggy clothes, and I do mean the slightest detail in intricate sequences [like the judges at gymnastics].

So, the OP was about modesty. And yes, I believe you can do sports not needing tight-fits.

If someone is wearing them on the street then I feel the same about them as I do about leggings - if you’re over 10 years old, you better be wearing a long shirt or tunic that hangs down over them or you’re going to look stupid.
I’m supporting Tis_Bear on this one. As a man, I find those leggings can be disconcerting. [The same way I’d rather not be faced with excessive cleavage. I’d rather not see.]

Amen sister. Most of the elderly women in my parish really don’t like wearing skirts because they are of an age where they always wore nylons or pantyhose and they don’t want to keep doing that. I’m Hispanic, but my skin is VERY light, and I have always worn pants unless it was a long dress for a special event or a performance.

Modesty goes hand in hand “keeping custody of your eyes and thoughts” for the beholder.

Are you coming down with something? Probably should take some vitamins.

Personal trainer; I spelled it out earlier and hoped people would understand. Sorry, I didn’t spell it out.

I think my Pilates instructor can, my physical therapist can, but the personal trainers I’ve had? I’m not confident they could. I need to see it too.

I’m probably biased because every sport I was involved with close fitting clothing was better, safer. I didn’t need a skate blade catching on flared leggings or loose sleeves.

Tunics and leggings seem like they are back in and I am thrilled. This was my signature look back in the mid-late 90s and I had fun with it. So many layering options.

Definitley back! It’s sort of a uniform look for me now. I don’t see how leggings with a shirt that covers your rear end could possibly be less modest than a skirt. And I see a lot of women wearing skirts without a slip underneath. That look won’t necessarily win anyone the modesty sweepstakes.

As a 40 year old, married man, I really appreciate when girls/women dress modestly.

As far a pants are concerned, I see nothing wrong with pants as long as they are not skin, tight pants.

I’ve seen PLENTY of women/girls dress modestly.

Properly fitting t-shirt and jeans are very modest.

Its only when the t-shirt and/or jeans are too small/tight that it becomes an issue.

And in regards to dresses, again, I don’t think you must wear a dress to be modest, properly fitting pants are fine. But there are a number of modest clothing companies who create stylish, yet modest dresses:

and even some companies who normally do not make modest clothing sometimes has a modest dress, like this one:

Try Googling “modest clothing for women” (if you haven’t) and you will find a number of online retailers.

God bless

I have. But this doesn´t answers the question. It´s a cultural view, and his personal view, not a catholic one.

I didn’t include dance since it’s not regard as a sport plus I tended to wear looser, flowier clothes for that. I had it in my head I’d probably suffer the same fate as Isadora Duncan.
