well im a Baptist at the moment but im thinking about converting to Catholic i use a NKJ Bible whats a Catholic Bible that reads like the NKJ please.
I second this recommendation. I started with the NAB but have since moved to the RSV-CE2.If you are accustomed to the original KJV, the bible most similar both in time and language to the KJV is the Douay-Rheims bible of 1582/1609. But, I see that you have a NKJV. In that case, I can heartily suggest the Revised Standard Version, Second Catholic Edition by Ignatius Press. It is a very faithful translation.
I have the New Jerusalem Bible and several New American Bibles, but their language is clumsy in places, and the notes on the NAB are horrible (they have since been revised). If you stick with the RSV-2CE, you will be well served. By the way, here is a recent Baptist to Catholic conversion thread that you might be interested in.
Christ’s peace.
the one that will sound the most like your current bible is the Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition.well im a Baptist at the moment but im thinking about converting to Catholic i use a NKJ Bible whats a Catholic Bible that reads like the NKJ please.
Douay rheims is the direct translation from the Greek it’s the most faithful translation there is, and apart from the ‘‘thee thy and thou’’ langauge contained in it, a child at the age of reason could read this translation. Is the Douay-Rheims, Challoner rvision the most faithful to the Latin Vulgate that one can obtain in English?
no it is not, it is a translation of the Latin VulgateDouay rheims is the direct translation from the Greek it’s the most faithful translation there is, .
IMHO the original 1572 Rheims NT-1609/10 Douai OT beats the Challoner. Is the Douay-Rheims, Challoner rvision the most faithful to the Latin Vulgate that one can obtain in English?
