Thanks for the responses. I’ll be going to some library used book sales this autumn and will head straight to the religious sections and hope to find some of the Bibles mentioned here.

I have only slightly fewer Bibles than po18guy.
To confess my eccentricity, my two favorites (unmentioned so far in this thread) are:
  • The Message (Catholic/Ecumenical Edition)
  • The Voice
quies: “Say, what are those footsteps I’m hearing?”
bystander: “If I’m not mistaken, they’re the sounds of other forum members bringing tar, feathers, and a rail…”

Check Goodwill if you have those stores, eBay/Amazon and also ThriftBooks. @ ThriftBooks, spend $10 and you get free shipping.

Well, I’m certainly no competition for some of the folks in this thread. But I do have a few:
NABRE
RSV-CE
Didache (RSV-2CE)
Ignatius Study Bible, New Testament
Little Rock Scripture Study Bible (NABRE)
Small Ignatius New Testament w/Psalms
ESV
KJV - probably 2 copies, because I’m sure my childhood Bible is around here somewhere

I have found many of them as deals for my Kindle. Makes storing and carrying them much easier 🙂 I had three different Bibles on my Kindle, before Mass on Friday I read the readings in all three versions.

That’s a good idea. I don’t use Kindle but might eventually. I’d still like to own a physical copy even if I get it on Kindle. I also like to read different translations and notes of daily Mass readings. And also like concentrating on a particular book and reading all the different translations and notes. I’ve been reading the last three OT prophet books and have been doing this. Like @po18guy said each translation comes close to the original intent but they all have limitations and the more we read the more we can approach the original intent.

You can build up a spiritual library for essentially peanuts. Bibles, most of them barely read or even unread, sit begging on shelves. That is an indicator of the spiritual poverty in our society. Focus on Catholic bibles and, IMO, the 1941-1969 Douay-Confraternity are some of the best, beside the Knox and the RSV-CE.

I love that on my Kindle I can make as many notes as I want, never run out of space 🙂

I have loads of Bibles, and I don’t want to try and list them all, but I have the Ignatius STudy Bible, and a Latin/English D/R Bible, the Little Rock Study Bible, and the complete NRSV Bible on MY kindle, which I like for exactly the same reasons as you mentioned. 😀 ALONG WITH a KINDLE version of the Oakeley-Haydock Bible that I am currently working on. It will have EVERYTHING that is found in that original 1878 version of the Haydock Bible. I have finished up through the middle of Ecclesiasticus, so I still have a ways to go… another year or so at least, before I can offer it on Amazon. 🙂

NAB Life Teen Bible
NIV Youth Walk Devotional (Protestant)
Also used to have Good News Bible TEV, but 1. I gave it away to a sibling, and 2. I hear there are some problems with this particular translation.
I know that’s not a lot of Bibles compared to the rest of you, but not a lot of Catholics my age (16) even have one, so I am satisfied with my collection.

Swedish
Bibeln (NT 1981 with updated OT trial translation from 1917)
Bibel 2000
Bibel 2000 (printed in very small print - excellent when travelling if you have really good eye sight)
Bibel för barn (Childrens Bible - just love the water colour paintings and it cost less than 1€ at a garage sale)

Greek
NT

English
KJV
Holy Bible NRSV Catholic edition

I have an NRSV Lectio Divina edition. I’m a pretty new Catholic and having the clear language and Lectio Divina guide in the margins is so helpful for study and meditation.

I also have two King James (gifts from family) and my husband has an Ignatius. We hope to purchase a Douay Rheims and Clementina Vulgata side-by-side in the future. 😍

Here are most of mine. The big New American was a wedding gift. The New Jerusalem I got in high school. The King James came from my dad. A few of them are only New Testaments.
