Just curious as to what books are being read by Catholics and Non. I’m currently reading Crossing the Tiber by Steven Ray and plan on reading Mere Christianity by CS Lewis next.

🙂

I was just settling in to Gods of Wasteland by Michael J. Matt. *

They said in their heart, the whole kindred of them together: Let us abolish all the festival days of God from the land. *

The Bible, The CC, and tomorrow I will begin Stories of Padre Pio.

I am currently reading The DaVinci Hoax, by Carl Olsen and Sandra Miesel, and Understanding The Dead Sea Scrolls, edited by Hershel Shanks. I hope to also finish reading The Rapture: The Endtime Fiction That Leaves Truth Behind, by David Curie as well.

Afte that, I have a couple of books on my nightstand: Letters From Gabriel, by Karen Santorum and The Last Four Things: Heaven, Hell, Purgatory and Judgement, by Fr. Michael Cochen. After that I would like to re-read The Rapture Trap by Paul Thigpen. All this while trying to finish the Bible study *Our Father’s Plan, * a couple of magazines and loose internet articles, and listening to three books on tape (Well, one can’t read ALL the time 🙂 ).

I am reading the Gospel of Matthew as a part of a 24 week bible study with Jeff Cavins. I am also reading Vol. 4 of the Philokalia. I hope to start Thomas’ Shorter Summa after that.

I am reading “Life is Worth Living” by Bishop Fulton Sheen - I guess basically the transcripts from the TV show - but so very touching…
don’t have anything queued up after that…but I am a lot like Fidelis…lots of magazines, etc. lying around to be read.

Missa

I am currently reading the Unmasking of Oscar Wilde. Apparently, Wilde is the poster child of homosexuality of the gay community. The author, Pearce, makes the point that all of Wilde’s writings are Catholic in nature and that Wilde considered his homosexuality as deviant behavior. Wilde, who courted becoming a Catholic in his early adult years, converted on his deathbed.

I’m taking a break from my reading of C.S. Lewis’s sci-fi trilogy (very heady material!), and am reading the Star Wars: New Jedi Order series. Talk about a difference in writing!

“And God Said What?” by Margaret Ralph and “The Jesus Seminar and its Critics” by Robert Miller.

I am currently reading True Devotion to Mary by St. Louis deMontfort.

The Orthodox Church, Bishop Kallistos Ware (second time through).
a pilgrim

I’m reading Hinds Feet on High Places by Hanna Hunnard, again…I usually read this one once a year…recharges my soul.

I feel guilty- all the rest of you are reading these thick spiritual tomes. :o

I recently finished Connie Willis’s Doomsday Book, which was rather interesting time-travel fic. Currently I’m reading Stephen King’s Everything’s Eventual short story collection, and E.M. Forster’s Howard’s End. I’ve had Dickens’ Pickwick Papers and Jane Austen’s *Northanger Abbey *on my shelf for some time now, those will probably be next.

Um…I try to read the daily Mass readings (although I don’t always remember if I’ve had a stressful day).

I read a ton of “church stuff” as part of my job, and set spiritual reading and scripture for lection divina (currently Acts of the Apostles), but this is what I am reading for relaxation:

With my granddaughter I am reading my way through 2 of our favorite authors, both Newberry winners: Susan Cooper (Latest is Green Boy, a time-travel adventure) and Sharon Creech (latest is Walk Two Moons, which she stopped reading because it was too sad, deals with a child losing her mother). I send mine to her when I finish, and she sends hers to me, so we save money that way. We also read Artemis Fowl in the summer together, she has them all.

For myself, in the last month-Rumpole Bests His Case, latest from John Mortimer; Michelangelo and the Pope’s Ceiling by Ross King; lastest mysteries by favorite authors, try to ration myself to one a week.

I am currently reading “Father Elijah, an Apocalypse” by Michael O’Brien. It is a great book, a little “Left Behind”, “Divinci Code”, and Angels and Demons mixed together. However, it is written from an Orthodox Catholic point of view.

Next on the list is the New Testament and Acts Navarre Bible Commentary (should arrive today from Amazon.com). I also re-ordered Catholicism for Dummies…I keep giving away my copy to those who need it more. It is a great resource for both RCIA and CCD.

Currently, What’s wrong with the world?, by Chesterton, and Las Moradas, by St. Teresa.

In the queue: Story of a Soul, by St. Therese, Sts. Thomas Aquinas and Francis of Assissi, by Chesterton, Dark nights of the Soul, by St. John of the Cross, The Life of St. Teresa, by St. Teresa, The way of Perfection, by St. Teresa.

Then, there are the books in my wish list at Amazon…

I am almost finished reading Rapture: The End-Times Error That Leaves the Bible Behind, by David Currie. This book is truly remarkable. If you want to know the answers to the *Left Behind *craze, this is the book.

I am also reading Liberalism is a Sin ( by Fr. Felix Sarda Y Salvany (translation by Conde B. Pallen). It’s slow going but very insightful.

I’ve been occasionally browsing through Radio Replies by Cartey and Rumble. It’s a great reference, but not something one would normally sit and read straight through.

Don’t know what I’ll be reading next. I have a whole box of mostly older orthodox Catholic works, and I’ll be sorting through it to find my next read. I have some of the spiritual classics like *Dark Night of the Soul, *but don’t know if I’m up to the challenge of something that deep.
