Divine Mercy in My Soul - Saint Maria Faustina, is the only book I’m reading - don’t have enough time 😦

Just finished I’Francis now reading:

Letters to a Non-Believer

by Thomas Crean O.P.

I am reading a book about the history of my village and its interesting origins

I think I’ve read all the Swedish murder mysteries (in English) by Viveca Sten. The locale is an island east of Stockholm. In the Heat of the Moment is my least favorite of the series – one of the recurring characters Nora has too little a role, usually making breakfast or worrying. This title has 99 chapters, written for easy adaptation to TV screenplays which also have been popular in Sweden.

The lady translator uses common American idioms and I can’t tell if the Swedes really talk that way.

This particular book is about teenagers so there’s vulgarity that I didn’t notice in the other novels.

As her novels unfold, the reader can tell that there’s one or two critical witnesses or characters who the cops can’t quite get to until the end, and then the murder is solved. So, there’s a lot of drivel dialog and throw-away actions. In this novel, I think there’s also two characters who sleep through most of the story.

I’m also reading PAUL by NT Wright, former Anglican bishop. Al Kresta interviewed Wright about this book on EWTN radio. I may have to read this book twice. I’m spending the first go-through digesting what he’s saying about Paul. The second go-through may be to set the points more in memory and to pick up details I missed,

We sort of know that Paul was also known as Saul, earlier. One was a Roman name and the other a Greek one. But, Saul is a lot like saulos in Greek which is an effeminate word, which he suggests that Paul wanted to lose.

Right now I’m working through the conflict Paul had with Peter over admitting Gentiles to the Christian faith. That was quite an important squabble. Wright puts Paul on a very high intellectual pedestal for his day. I would go so far as to say that without Paul, we might not understand just who Jesus is.

I began last week Daily Meditations, by Saint Alphonsus.

It will take a while, since each day has it’s own meditation.

I like it very much already

“I Am With You Always” by Fr Benedict Groeschel. It is a “can’t put it down” sort of book.

Up From Slavery by Booker T. Washington
Quite an interesting read!
