How do you like Beck’s book so far? I read his Common Sense and I thought it was pretty good and I was also presently surprised to see that Thomas Paine’s Common Sense was included in the back. I looked at *Arguing with Idiots *at the book store and didn’t really care for the way it was laid out. It seemed like it was almost a picture book

Granted I didn’t look at it for too long. I was there for a different book.

God bless

I am still reading High On Arrival by Mackenzie Philips. It is still a very good book. Have any of you ever read Max Lucado’s book called " He Chose The Nails" and “Where the Earth Meets Heaven” and “The Restless Heart” By Ron Rotheiser and “Four Steps To Spiritual Freedom” By Thomas Ryan???

No, I haven’t read any of those books. However, I read “Grace for the moment Vol.1” by: Max Lucado.

By the way, I’m reading “The Shack” by: William P. Young.

Arguing With Idiots is pretty good so far. I’ve only gone through the first three chapters, and he breaks down the info in different ways, hence why the format is different compared to your average text.
Personally, I like the added comic strips and “Guest Idiot” blurbs as the info leaps out a bit more. It also helps to add to the humor, which definitely makes for a more entertaining read.

My only issue is that things aren’t properly end-noted as in they’re not there. Instead, you need to check the back of the book for sources, listed chronologically, by chapter. I’m not sure what format this is in or whether or not that this is a recurring theme in all his books since this is his only book I have.

I purchased this at Barnes&Noble in North Haven, CT when he did the book tour at the beginning of October. Seems like a real down to Earth guy, though I really wish I had more time to talk; I heard about 2,000 showed up for autographed copies.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Beck does seem like a down to earth guy, someone who can make fun of himself. A good quality to have.

God bless

I found three Max Lucado books at half Price Books. One is called “He Chose The Nails” and I cant remember what the other two are called. Hang on and I will get them and see if any of you have heard of or read them. OK… One is called “God Came Near” and the other is called “In The Grip Of Grace: You Can’t Fall Beyond His Love” … I have like 4 more of them on hold for $2.00 each and Ric Flair’s book called " To Be The Man".

I should be finished with Mackenzie Phillips book “High On Arrival” In a day or so.

I’m now on 2 Kings in the Tanakh, and Book of Proverbs in the Catholic Old Testament. Once I’m done with one of those Bibles, I’ll restart Eusebius’ History of the Early Church. I still need to read the rest of Arguing with Idiots.

The other books I have are:

The Jefferson Bible
Qu’ran
King James Reference Bible
The Purgatorio (I may need to re-read The Inferno for this)
Republic (Plato’s to be exact)
Life of Christ by Arch Bishop Fulton Sheen
God’s War (deals with the Crusades)
Thomas Acquanis’ Selected Writings
St. Augustine’s City of God
The Dead Seas Scrolls

Mein Kampf
The Communist Manifesto and Other Writings

I’m down with giving those two heretical books a shot, if for no other reason than to understand how evil becomes set in the minds of men.

I’ll probably read the Apocrypha and the Pseudepigrapha as well.

YAYYYYYYYY… I finally got through reading "High On Arrival " By Mackenzie Philips. It was a real good book short of using the “F” Word a little too much. Just makes me thank God I had a somewhat happy childhood. I am probably going to read either a Max Lucado book called “He Chose The Nails” Or Don Pipers book "90 Minutes In Heaven. Still wish I had the Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi book called “The Time Of My Life” That is what I wish I could be reading next.

Gigglin4God-Everytime you mention the name “Mackenzie Philips” it makes me look twice and I have to laugh because “Mackenzie Allen Philips” is the protagonist in the book I’m reading.

“90 minutes in Heaven” by Don Piper didn’t really get very good reviews from this website:

goodreads.com/book/show/89375.90_Minutes_in_Heaven

However, I really enjoyed this book and besides our tastes are not all the same.

By the way, there was a woman (I assume it was a woman) who enjoyed reading books about the Holocaust and I believe her Aunt was a religious Sister…I can’t seem to find her since I don’t remember her username. I’d like to ask a question to that person please and thank you?

I am not sure of who you are wanting to find but my husband has two aunts who are nuns and I have an aunt on my side who is one. I dont read anything on the Holocaust because I dont know what it is and I am not interested in reading those sorts of books.

Began reading Max Lucado’s book called He Chose The Nails. I couldnt put it down and have read almost 70 pages in one day. It sure is one of those books that make you think.

Beowulf. New translation by John McNamara.

I always enjoy Beowulf! Remember, no Beowulf, no Lord of the Rings.

Anways, I forgot to mention that I’ve also read “Traveling Light” by Max Lucado.

Happy reading everyone 🙂
