Greetings to those reading and or posting this thread,
The above book is a good book, however if the Warrens are accurately quoted in this book written by Gerald Brittle there are several points such as reincarnation that are in conflict with official Church Teaching. There are also other points of conflict regarding deceased human spirits especially in regard to the Official Church Teaching of the particular judgement. There are other points but these are the main two that I can think of off the top of my head.

A friend recommended I read Unveiled by Francine Rivers. She loved the book… I tried it out and wasn’t impressed. The writing was weak at best… the story was interesting (of course! It’s based on a biblical story!) but it just felt like poorly written fanfiction of the Bible! haha.

Hello LukeSr, are you reading this book again or is it the type of book that you have to put down because there is so much to absorb? or is it a scary?

well, I lead a Substance Addictions Ministry and I’ve been studying Demonology for the past couple years looking for any possible relationship between the two but I’m reading it a second time because there is so much, as you say, to absorb. One of the facinating things is the distiction the Warrens make between spirit / ghosts and inhuman demonic spirits. The latter seem to lend itself to the fallen angels the bible speaks of. You may find yourself sorting it through what our Catechism teaches. Our fellow member Anathama Sit is bookmarking a spot for me about re-incarnation which is not something we believe.
In any case, it’s a facinating read and in my opinion based on my own personal experiences and encounters, it’s worth the time and I found myself relating to some of their experiences. As for the scary thing…I keep a container of Holy Water next to my bed…just in case !!

I will say that there are distinctions between human and inhuman spirits. I shall go through the book more carefully and mark down what is contradictory to solid Catholic teaching. I think the Warrens are Traditionalist Catholics, though I am needing to do some reserach on this one. I am pretty interested in them and am doing some research.
I have been studying demonology as well. IN the things that I have seen and read, there seem to be quite a bit drug use where demons are involved. Though obviously not everyone who uses or is addicted to drugs is possessed or oppressed.
Keep in mind the teachings of the particular judgement.
Say a rosary too. Have frequent recourse to the Sacraments. If you are studying demonology I would suggest having a wise spiritual director. I am only studying demonology and involved in this only with the blessings of my spiritual director.

I am reading “The Duty of Delight” it is the fascinating diary of Dorothy Day.
A little story, onn Nov. 29 I glanced through my missal during morning prayers and saw that it was the anniversary of her death and she was up for canonization, apart from that I knew very little of her except she found the Catholic Worker.
later my 3year old asked to go to the book store so we went. While passing the spiritual section on the way to the kiddies section with toys I randomly grabbed this book not sure if it was Catholic or something I would want to read. I find it amazing that on that day I randomly picked that book. I am deeply moved by it.

A very interesting topic regarding substance abuse and demons. I am a recovered alcoholic and sober for seventeen years. Not as active as I used to be in any recovery program but thinking back on some of the horrors I have seen regarding substance abuse it makes perfect sense.
