Just finished reading Five Children and It to the kids.
Ethics of Aristotle.
The Seventh Son, first of the Alvin Maker series by Orson Scott Card.

Just read:

A Breath of Snow and Ashes, Diana Gabaldon
Thud, Terry Pratchett
The Little White Horse, Elizabeth Goudge

Reading:
Appetite, Nigel Slater- the absolute best food writer in the world except for John Thorne, and with fantastic recipes, too.
An Omelette and a Glass of Wine, Elizabeth David
Confessions, St. Augustine
To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee

I work in a bookstore. Reading lists don’t work- I just pick things up at random and start.

…wow…

I don’t think I have read that many books in my life…

But right now in school we are reading “Pride and Prejudice”, and that is all I care to tangle with for now.

“Freddy and Frederica” by Mark Helprin is good. I also enjoyed a novel by anew author Terry McCarthy. “The Sword of Hannibal” was fun but you have to get past teh first 50 pages or so. I almost gave up on it but am glad I stuck with it.

I’m reading Al Kresta’s 2nd book “Why are Catholic’s so concerned about sin?”

It’s great so far, very readable and even entertaining. There’s just so few good books out there on sin and hell anymore. You can buy it from his bookstore www.avemariaradio.net .

I also just finished C.S. Lewis’ Out of the Silent Planet. I usually don’t like sci-fi but this had so much more to it that I could get into it (at least once he actually made it to the planet I could get into it).

It is a new book! It’s Vimes book, which in my opinion makes it absolutely terrific. I have a mild crush on Vimes. There’s a companion kid’s book called Where’s My Cow?. Thud is about the Battle of Koom Valley, where the trolls ambushed the dwarves. Or the dwarves ambushed the trolls. Good book.

Pride and Prejudice is a great book, Steve. I hope you enjoy it.

The Space Trilogy is so good. I think That Hideous Strength is my favourite. It’s the third book.

I just found out that someone’s making a movie of The Little White Horse! It’s going to come out next year! It’s another explicitly Christian children’s fantasy-ish novel. I can’t wait. If you haven’t read it, and you have a daughter from nine to fourteen, I suggest you get it. Lovely story, lovely heroine.

A little while ago I finished Mr Darcy Takes A Wife. Any fan of Jane Austen will have a cow reading this book. Terrible. Like reading Scarlett after Gone With The Wind. Yuck!

Am currently reading The Narnia Chronicles. They are really good and surprising quick reads. Hard cover copies of the individual books are currently out, by the way. I opted for the soft cover all-inclusive book myself.

*The Traveler * was an interesting book, however it is supposed to be a three part series and not sure if I want to stay that involved.

*The Historian * was an excellent book as well. It gets better and better the further you get into the book.

Just finished reading the Princess Bride. Always have been a fan of the movie and really enjoyed the book as well.

I have to go back to getting books from the library because the bookstore is making me broke!

In no particular order I am reading:

WITNESS TO HOPE by George Weigel
CENTERING PRAYER by M. Basil Pennington, O.C.S.O.
THE STORY OF SCOTLAND by Nigel Tranter
SCOTTISH ANCESTRY by Sherry Irvine
THe PSALMS King James Version
UNITY (A Star Trek DS9 novel) by S.D. Perry
GODS AND GENERALS by Jeff Shaara
THE MAGICIANS NEPHEW by C.S. Lewis
SEVEN PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE by Leonard
Felder
EMBRACING THE FEAR by Bemis and Barrada
THE PRAYER THAT CHANGES EVERTHING by Stormie
Omartian

Yeah, I know. What can I say? I’m a retired teacher. I work part-time at a library. I’m taking classes to maintain my teaching certificate and I love to read. The books are scattered in different places throughout the house so I can take a reading break almost anywhere at anytime.

In recent months, I’ve completed the following:

Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic - David Currie
Rome Sweet Home - Scott & Kimberly Hahn
Catholicism and Fundamentalism - Karl Keating
Where We Got the Bible - Henry Graham
Lead, Kindly Light - Thomas Howard
One Shepherd, One Flock - Oliver Barres

What I’m reading now:

The Salvation Controversy - Jimmy Akin
The Catechism of the Catholic Church (selected readings for RCIA)
The Bible - Jeremiah and Isaiah (from a Bible-in-a-year reading plan), and selected readings for RCIA

What I’m planning to read:

Solving the Relationship Puzzle - Dr. Steven Gutstein (to assist in the social formation of my two autistic children)
True Devotion to Mary - St. Louis de Monfort
Faith of the Early Fathers - Jurgens
The Essential Catholic Survival Guide - CA Apologists

Spill it folks. What books are you reading? Religious or non-Religious.

I am currently reading Walter Hilton’s “Scale of Perfection” and Chrysostom’s Homilies on John. I am waiting impatiently for the release of the new Harry Potter book.🤓
I just received all my text books for the next six months…I am becoming a Marian Catechist! SO I will be reading the Catechism, the workbook, the textbook…and for fun when my brain starts to melt…The Enquirer and The Globe…😉

I have been slowly reading through the book that inspired Mel Gibson’s “Passion of the Christ” movie, The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ by Ven. Anne Catherine Emmerich during my one-hour daily bus trips to and from work.

These amazingly detailed revelations REALLY deepen my appreciation for what God did for us, and they add new depth to my rosary meditations.

Also it’s kind of neat to read a book by somebody who can for sure pray for me while I’m reading it!, since the Church has declared her venerable 🙂

Right now I am in the middle of the new Mother Angelica book
by Raymond Arroyo. It is a real page turner, I highly recommend
it! 🙂

I just finished The Catholic Contravercy by St. Francis de Sales. It is probably the best apologetics book I have read. I am now reading The Dark Night of The Soul, and I will start The Divine Comedy tomorrow on a long busride.

Now if you want to get into plans, I could go on all day. I am such a procrastinator. I read a lot, but my eyes are bigger than they are quick. I can’t walk by a book store without going in and checking out whether they have any new Catholic books that may be good.

Just finished Sophie’s Choice by William Styron for the 3rd time
A wonderful book, and a wonderful movie also. No one could have played Sophie other than Meryl Streep.

I’m reading A Father Who Keeps His Promises by Scott Hahn.

Jamaica Inn - Daphne du Maurier
The World’s First Love: Mary Mother of God - Fulton Sheen

I just got through with Finding Noel by Richard Paul Evans,
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield, and The Saint of Lost Things by Christopher Castellani.

In Search of Schrodinger’s Cat: Quantum Physics and Reality by John Gribbin
Doomsday Book by Connie Willis (good time-travel read)

Phillippa Gregory, The Constant Princess. Christmas present, as I was curious about her writing, and she plays with a similar period as Dorothy Dunnett (::sigh::). I’m probably 50 pages in and am not particularly impressed so far, but am open to being wowed if such happens.

Should be reading my Navarre Bible St. Matthew. For shame. Probably will read some of it tomorrow rather than reading Gregory or re-activating my World of Warcraft account.
