The book I am writing to knock “Harry Potter” out of the news and into oblivion. 😃
 
I just finished Zorro by Isabel Allende. (For once NPR was right on a book review). Went to B & N…the summer drought is at hand. Bought two techno-thrillers by Jeff Rovin. There is absolutely nothing in hard science-fiction or fantasy worth reading right now. There are several series of sea-stories ( I love Patrick O’Brien’s books) which I have not read and am contemplating and I am awaiting Gingrich and Forester’s Grant Goes East, the sequel to Gettyburg, to be released in trade paperback.

I’m reading The Devil’s Armor by John Marco (sequel to The Eyes of God) and also *Rhapsody *by Elizabeth Haydon.
Plus, this term in school I’ve been reading stuff like The Iliad, The Odyssey, Ovid’s Metamorphosis, Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the Rule of St. Benedict, and a bunch of history books like Einhard’s Life of Charlemagne, and also Roman history: Tacitus, Plutarch, Polybius.

This summer I’m hoping to finish up the *Rhapsody *trilogy, The Once and Future King by T.H. White, The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, and The Malorean series by David Eddings. Plus some others that I can’t think of off the top of my head right now.

I am reading The Screwtape Letters, Esubius: A Church History, and am trying to get back into the Narnia series. I read them as a child, and want to read them again before the movies come out. I also enjoy a good no-brainer mystery or spy novel during the summer months. I spent last summer on Tad Williams…

Those are some I forgot to mention! I read The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and The Silver Chair a long time ago. I just read The Magician’s Nephew and I’m going to re-read the rest of the series (and The Last Battle, which I haven’t read yet, or The Horse and His Boy). The Screwtape Letters sounds really good too so I want to read that as well.
 
Any of David and Leigh Edding’s books are a scream. I bought the first book in the Belgariad in paperback…everything else has been in hardback - I read them first, pass them on to my wife, who passes them on to whichever son is currently without reading materials. We are a family of readers.

It is EXCELLENT as it really demonstrates that the desire of some of the liberal denominations to be all things to all people have resulted in a real decline in these faiths. Shiflett does a great job of demonstrating the usual tactics whereby liberal denominations fool themselves into thinking that homosexual ministers are just fine and that you really don’t need to believe in God. It’s really fascinating as a refugee from one of these denominations, he has certainly pegged them.

Harry Potter you can have. Right now I am reading " On Being Catholic" by Thomas Howard. I alternate “thinking books” with “mind candy”

just watched the Sword in the Stone as I was folding laundry, think I will re-read the Once and Future King. Just finished re-reading Mary Stewart’s Merlin/Arthur trilogy. DD sent DVD of Sense and Sensibility for bday, think it is time to read Jane again.

am reading several books on RCIA process following a 4-day workshop.

am deliberately holding off on spiritual reading, except for Office of Readings and lectio, until my retreat in July, when the nuns will give me a reading assignment.
 
finished Men In Black by Levin… now I think GWB should appoint 2 Supreme Court Judges… make it 11 as there is nothing to stop it. (court has had 5-14 over the years)

now reading Forgotten Truths by Rev John Swint (1941) so basic, and so well written.
 
Since I have been busy moving and with a new job, I have not had much time for reading. I was reading God in the World by Pope Benedict XVI before that.

I’m reading The Faith Of Our Fathers by James Cardinal Gibbons, and I’m not going to read another book until I finish this one.I used to try to read three and four books at once which is really not very productive, so now I’m reading one at a time from start to finish before I engage the next one. I have my books-to-read stacked (like a batting lineup) rarin’ to go when I finish this current one. They are next up: Theology For Beginners by Frank Sheed ( a re-read for me); Handbook Of Christian Apologetics by Peter Kreeft ( which I had started much earlier but didn’t complete); Introduction To The Devout Life by Saint Francis de Sales (which I’ve always meant to get to); The Three Conversions In The Spiritual Life by Father Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange, O.P. (which I’ve heard in life-changing), and Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Heaven by Peter Kreeft --which I hope because of the life I’m trying to lead will be a book I’ll need to read :gopray2:
