When I first came here, I was not Catholic, but was studying the Catholic Faith. I came here to learn and to see the debates against the Catholic Church and see the responses.
So you converted to Catholicism after coming to the forum?
As a former Catholic I came here to ask a question regarding how the Catholic Church viewed my status officially. After a while I received an answer. I’ve hung around mainly out of curiosity.
Thanks for sharing.
My (formerly RC, now ROCOR) husband suggested I stop by & read, back when he was RC. When I have time, I still enjoy the feisty discussions on the family boards and the current events areas! Some very nice (and interesting!) people!
What is ROCOR? Russian Orthodox?

I am currently going through my Journey into faith or RCIA classes. I was baptised into the Anglican Church and was schooled in CofE schools. I am here to meet with other Catholics, to get to know others in the faith and to share thoughts and ideas.

I am wondering what brings non Catholics to a website about Catholicism? This question is basically for non Catholics. Are you here to convert us Catholics? Are you here to find out more about the Catholic Church? Are you here to simply talk theology with other Christians?

What is your reasons for stopping by? I am very interested in knowing people’s reasons for coming here.

Everyone PLEASE be respectful of one another!👍
Me?

I must give credit to my parents, who saw fit to raise me in the traditions of their own Roman Catholic Faith, going back in my family to 1700’s in North America, and Europe before that.

I should also give credit to the RCC itself - of which I have been a member for many decades - for delivering me to the doorstep of Holy Orthodoxy.

I am also grateful to the Eastern Orthodox Church, for teaching me the difference between these two ancient guardians of Sacred Tradition and Holy Scripture.

So I sought-out “Catholic Answers” to the question, “How and why a Christian community of such noble foundation could have strayed so far from from the original teachings of Christ, the Apostles, and the early Church?”

I volunteer with a local Catholic church’s ministry and have long been interested in the Catholic Church, particularly after attending a Catholic college and getting to know some of the religious women there (Sisters of St. Joseph).

Knowing that the Lutheran church shared the roots of the Western Church, CAF seemed like a good place to learn more.

So you converted to Catholicism after coming to the forum?

Well, sorta. I was already in the conversion process. I had already bought a Catechism and was reading it. I was watching EWTN and going to Mass. I was reading several books. I found this site and read the forums, especially the posts and forums where the Catholic Church was being questioned. I was very concerned with being fooled again, having been fooled when I became LDS. So, I cannot say I was converted after coming here…it was not this site that converted me. But this site HELPED me in my conversion process and I was eventually confirmed as a Catholic.

I am here to discuss Christianity with my adelphoi from another Christian tradition.

I am not here to convert or be converted (I am already a Christian, and so are the Catholics here), but to exchange ideas with other Christians.
What she said.

I have been protestant most of my life but within the last year I have been on the road to the Catholic Church. I went from protestant evangelical, to pentecostal, to charismatic, and now on the way to Catholicism. I have studied Catholicism for about a year and have reached the point of wanting to come into full communion, but RCIA doesn’t start for seven months and will take 6 months or so to complete. So this is a long journey I am on. When its over it will have been over 2 years. Catholic Answers Live is what brought me here and has been a huge help to me. Thanx 👍

I don’t remember exactly where I learned about this web site - I think it might have been a link from another site. Actually it might have been a link for the main Catholic Answers page and then through that I discovered the Catholic Answers forums - I don’t remember for sure, anymore.

I guess this isn’t really answering the main question, though.

Well, I’m interested in exploring the Catholic faith and also I have never actually been on a forum before this one - no, not even Facebook, and this seemed like a safe place - I think I have since learned that there is danger and discord even here, but of all the places you could go to online, this is probably one of the safest, I would say.

I guess I figure there are probably a lot of kind people on this site, and that I might learn something.

I’m here for a few reasons:
  1. If nothing else, just to get a different perspective on Christianity.
  2. To defend the LDS faith from the misunderstandings that seem to run pretty rampant in some threads. I’m not coming to convert Catholics, rather just to help give them a more accurate image of my faith:).

Thanks and welcome to the forum!

I was raised Catholic -baptized, first communion, and confirmation- I fell out of the faith. I had difficult experiences in life by living a moral relativism life as an atheist (sometimes I would say agnostic). I returned to the Catholic Church, and this site helped me learn about my faith. I have learned so much here.

Welcome back home! 👍

To know and understand the main arguments I will encounter when evangelized by Roman Catholics. This happens quite frequently, and my faith has been strengthened by a better understanding of our similarities and differences.

Hmmm, how to state this in chronological order.
Have been interested in religion for most of my life, how and why people believe what they believe. I can now say that this subconsciously and probaly came from wondering the same of myself without fully realizing it til recently.
Jesus has always been The One for me.
I have had many difficulties in the last dozen years and I know it is Him that keeps me going. But I now want and need to know why if possible. At least a clue.
On Good Friday 2010, I could not sleep, as usual. I flipped through channels and arrived at the live airing of the Veneration of the Cross. I casually thought, as I always had, why wasn’t this done when I was a kid? (Protestant) I mean He died for us. I never understood how they/we could leave out one of THE most aspects of Jesus. The Homily was great. “Truly, this Man was the Son of God.”
Brought me to tears. Then I said to myself far less casually, He died for us. He really died for us. And brutally. How can this not be observed as such?
And so my interest in religion became a bit more centered on the faiths of Protestants and Catholics and their differences. Why the differences are and how they came to be. I learned much. And I read from one of my favorite authors, a Catholic priest, who I’ve been reading for years, before even thinking of Catholicism, “Find a reason for your Faith.”
The veneration of the Cross made me say “OK.”
I persisted with finding information in books and on-line as my life is more challenging than I can bear. One day, I typed in “Catholic doctrines” and here I am.
I love it, and it is overwhelming but compelling learning.
I also realize that those last two lines were all you wanted…😃
My first meeting with the RCIA director is this Sunday. I cannot proceed with this quickly anymore, But I shall do my best.
Forgive my length. I am very isolated and, well, there’s always someone here at CAF.
I am trying so diligently not to fall into a pile of tears, but that is soooo very challenging and I often fail. CAF helps much.

Thank you for reading…

Great to hear you’re meeting with the RCIA director, cheezey! That’s the best step you can take, no matter how long it takes.
Trust me, when you’re at your confirmation, it will all be worth it. When I was confirmed, it was the most peaceful feeling I ever experienced. 😃
