What specific differences in your life do you notice when you get a little bit lazy with your prayer life? Or am I the only one.

Yeah I notice it. I’m being “reawakened” from my prayer dormancy and I’ve actually fallen to certain serious sins that have given me trouble in the past because I chose not to pray.

It brings to mind what Paul said in one of his letters “Awaken, O Sleeper!”

You’re not the only one. 👍

Falling into sin, lack of appreciation for mass (Lord have mercy.), and laziness in living my faith. All horrible things.

I’m miserable, downhearted, and less motivated spiritually…and make more silly mistakes than is normal…and then guilt sets is and I know the only way to alleviate the guilt is to return humbly to prayer asking The Lord’s pardon that I could presume I could live my life happily without prayer and His many Graces that come through prayer…this is an imperfect motive, I know, but sometimes it is the best that I can rustle up and the only motive (alleviating guilt and a mopey disposition) that will work for me…

Temptations and their power/hold on me, seem to increase

Mark 14:38
Watch ye and pray
that you enter not into temptation

Depression, big time…And praying starts to look like this enormous task that I am never going to be able to do right, so why bother?..And then I realize  where that kind of thinking comes from, and start praying again.
I really believe that not praying is one of the biggest openings that we can give satan to work on us…And he will try to keep us from praying again, because he knows how powerful prayer really is.
There is a little verse I like that goes something like:
“The devil trembles when he sees
the simplest Christian on his knees”.

I start to rely on my self to accomplish things. A very great temptation for me, one who was once a very determined person. Some of you may think there is nothing wrong with a healthy balance in this area, but I am an “all or nothing” person as my wife says. I can’t do things half way and this line of thinking can lead to unthankfulness and elation. It took quite a lot for the Lord to break me of this, but yet I still struggle with it and pray little at times. Now that I think of it, I have to reconsider the cause and effect of this temptation and prayer. Is it that I pray little because I have fallen for this temptation or is it a result of praying less, a bad vicious circle. Tim

Sometimes I get excessively drawn into worldly matters, and feel spiritually empty. I then take stock in what’s going on, regain some ‘distance’, and hold-alone with Christ, where I belong. I’m in the process of overcoming one such episode now.

I lose my inner peace and feel spiritually empty. I feel like I have missed a very important appointment. Things that keep me from Christ start to re-emerge and become more enticing. I become irritable and cranky and off form.

My power to withstand temptation is severely lowered to the point where I fall most easily over things that I would with prayer snuff away.

My spiritual high becomes a spiritual low!

My goodness but through this thread I am beginning to see exactly what a power prayer really is in peoples lives.

I lose my focus on Christ Jesus and instead, focus it on myself and my ‘plight’. I get very self-centered and agitated over the littlest things. I succumb to the same temptations I’ve had in the past, with little resistance on my end. I end up despairing or doubting, and am a general annoyance to my husband.

Well said. You just described what happens to me, too, except I have a wife, instead of a husband.

No - you’re not the only one. I ONLY WISH I could get into a personal prayer regimen - and stick to it ! How could I notice a difference when I’m so lazy / apathetic or find excuses all the time? Too many temptations - TV for one, and I’m exhausted most of the time.

One thing I DO know - whether I notice differences or not - when I pray (attentive or not - best prayer or not) God will take care of the rest - I’ve done SOMETHING that He wants. When I get lazy and don’t pray, it’s my own fault - and still God waits. Makes me want to cry - He’s so patient with me - and I’m so bad.

I feel disconnected from everything, lazy, depressed. I also start to worry more and anxiety sets in. You know in cartoons when a character is frustrated and in the word bubble the artist draws scribble? That’s how I feel! Adoration and reading does wonders to bring me closer to God.
