What chapter(s) of the Bible would make a great movie?

Besides movies that have already been done (i.e. The Passion, The 10 Commandments, etc…) what books or chapters in the Bible do you think would make a great movie?

I think Acts 27 reads quite dramatically of Paul’s dangerous journey to Rome by ship.
 
I’d love to see a movie about the life of Paul.

I’d love to see a movie about the Israel from Saul to Solomon.

A movie about Elijah would be a hoot, too!!!
 
The 1st Book of Maccabees from the beginning of the book to the death of Judas.

The first part of the movie can be a quick overview of the Seleucid occupation, including the martyrdoms of Eleazar and the Seven Brothers; up to and including the revolt of Mattathias.

The main part of the movie should cover the exploits of Judas, including the death of Antiochus Epiphanes as related in Second Maccabees 9. There should be plenty, plenty battles here.
The movie should probably end with the death of Judas Maccabeus.

The closing can then be a quick forward to the regaining of Jewish independence under Simon, perhaps through titles before the credits roll.
 
How about either of my two favorite books of the OT?

Tobit and Ruth.

I simply love those stories!
 
I think the book of Joshua would make a great movie. That would be a sequel to the Ten Commandments that could be as good as Ten Commandments. The battle of Jericho would be great on the big-screen, with the walls falling down after the horns were blown. Imagine that in surround-sound!😃
 
I wouldn’t mind seeing a Mel Gibson directed movie or similar of the preaching and healings of Jesus from his meeting with John the Baptist onwards. A form of prequel to the Passion of the Christ.
 
I’d like to see Esther - good dramatic story with a strong female central character who’s NOT incredibly violent unlike Judith or Jael 🙂

Or else Abraham - what a life story!
 
I think that the story of Samson and Delilah would make a great comedy.
As for serious movies, I would say Ruth, Ester, or the story of Jacob and his sons.

Most stories from the Bible are the basis for movies already. Most were made in the 40’s and 50’s.

The Bible
Sampson and Delilah
King David (more recent of course)
Peter and Paul
The Robe (not strictly a Bible story, but good none the less)
these are just a few

I don’t recall a movie about Joshua. I know there’s an animated version. But this would be a great story to bring to the big screen. We need to get Mel working on this.

Somone should make a movie about Revelation. Not a movie that tries to guess about what the future events are, but a movie about John and what he saw as he wrote the book of Revelation. It would be an awesome CGI movie. I can picture a scene where John sees a Fatima-Like vision of Mary and a sweet voice saying “I am the Ark of His Covenant.” in a way that is similar to what Mary said to Bernadette: “I am the Immaculate Conception”

The Late, Great Planet Earth has elements of this. We watched it for a course I took called Apocalyptic Visions.

I’ve actually seen a movie that was based on the Book of Esther. It was done in the '50s, and had all the windy, hand-wringing, wailing, over-blown acting of that era, but the costumes and the sets were very beautiful. I don’t remember who the actress was, though.
 
I’d like to see the entire book of Acts done. I think there’s been a few low budget ones done, but I would like to see a “big budget” one of it very much.

I’d like to see it done with them looking like early Catholic priests and Bishops (instead of looking like they’re wearing fancy pyjamas and bathrobes), and showing a St. Justin Martyr style of Mass. 🙂

Me too :rolleyes:.

I didn’t much care for it – my point is that Revelation has been cinematized in one way or another.
