No one has mentioned sci-fi films, so I will.
I’d love to see a remake of “When Worlds Collide.” I think a well done updated version could be quite interesting, fun, and a real CGI fest, for those who love that kind of thing. I’d trust someone like Peter Jackson with such a project, but not the typical Hollywood “geniuses” who have ruined many another remake.
The thing I love about 50’s/60’s sci-fi, though is the earnest belief that man could better himself–with God’s help, that is. Now, it’s not about bettering ourselves, but merely survival in most sci-fi films and God is nowhere to be seen or heard of.
The remake of the TV series “Lost in Space” didn’t make the grade. As with “Chips,” “Baywatch,” and other such attempts are adapting a beloved TV series onto the big screen, they missed the whole point of the originals as family fare and turned them into R rated films. Wake up, Hollywood.–that approach just doesn’t work.
