I’ve heard a lot about people claiming that Jesus, in all likelihood, was a much darker complexion than He is typically portrayed do to the region in which he was born etc. Is there a final answer on this?

Brown. I forget right now which Saint it was, but one in particular had seen Jesus “as He was in life” and described Him as being “dark skinned like the people of His homeland”.

Yeah that’s what I thought. Crazy to try and re-picture Him.

I would like more info about this (the witness Saint) if anyone can find it.

I assumed Jesus was “middle-eastern looking”, whatever that means to each of us. (FWIW, the “picture of Jesus” my parents had on their bedroom wall showed Him with a…dark tan) 🙂

Just to point out a fact there are many dark skinned Middle Eastern people and there are many light skinned Middle Eastern people there isn’t a single phenotype for the region. My honest opinion is not so much how Jesus looks or looked but who Jesus is to me the message is way more important. I have a Saudi friend who has a mother from Yemen and is of Jewish descent by his mother and I asked him if he was darker or lighter than most Saudis he informed me he was in fact darker. I have naturally reddish colored skin but I do tan I am darker when I go out in the Sun. But like I said ultimately I don’t think it matters

I know guys, I knew this point was going to be raised by a bunch of people. It has nothing to do with racism. I know we live in a hyper-sensitive time with regards to political racial correctness, but it should go without saying that the message is what is most important along with what He did for us. Its a historical/sociological curiosity.

We don’t know, as He took His skin to Heaven with the rest of Him.

Yes, he lived in the Middle East, but to this day, from Egypt to Iran there are those with white skin.

When we see Him we will not see His original self, but His glorified or resurrectional body.

I really want to see what He looked like. Almost as much as I want to know if aliens exist or not lol 👍

According to St Maria Faustina, the apostle of Mercy. This is what Jesus looked like 🙂

I empathize, (about HIM not aliens:)) but we won’t see HIM until our eyes roll back, more’s the pity…

To me, Jesus looks like whomever he speaks to, like Mary as well.

If Mary appears as Our Lady of Guadalupe, that is how She looks but She can appear differently as Our Lady of Akita and so on.

Back to Jesus, I’m not sure if anyone said “Olive Skinned”, that is the way, I picture him some.

Here’s Akiane Kramarik’s painting of Jesus which was identified by Colton Burpo as the “right” picture of Jesus in the New York Times bestselling book, Heaven Is for Real!

Since you put it that way 🙂 let me entertain the possibility that Jesus was … white!

OK he might have been brown for all I know. And that or any other shade will make no difference to me. BUT - to keep things lively - he was called the “Son of David”.

That ancestor David at least (listed on his foster fathers’ family tree, but possibly part of Mary’s too) … was called “ruddy”. That’d be reddish? rosy complected? red-haired?

merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ruddy
Definition of RUDDY
1: having a healthy reddish color
2 : red, reddish
I have seen Jewish people with each of those characteristics. What’s more, most of today’s Jews that I can name (or have known) … my college roommate for a while was a red-haired Jewish fellow (non-practicing at that time … but I digress) - would definitely be considered more “white” (per race) – than – anything else.

Some famous Jewish movie stars happen to have blonde hair and blue eyes! < Is that ALL from cultural cross mixing over the years do you think? Maybe not. Jews may have done some of that, but are rather famous for being set apart and marrying within the faith or culture (which after all was God’s request of them if my Bible serves). 😉
Lamentations 4:7 Brighter than snow were her princes, whiter than milk, More ruddy than coral, more precious than sapphire.
Shall we agree then that “white” is a possibility? This is post-David but pre-Jesus per history.

I like the posters who DID point out some of the diverse aspects of Jesus.

**FUN FACTS: ** While not American (North or South) or Austrailian; Jesus was Asian per the continent he lived his life in; an **immigrant to Africa **(Egypt) as a child; and European by proxy - as the capital of the Empire he lived his life in (Rome) was located there. The Americas and Austrialia were populated at least in part by people whose ancestors came from the other three continents. To prove my possibility thinking does have its limits … even I can’t connect a dot to Antarctica on this.

MORE important: On the day He died on a cross for us all. His skin would seem to have been red (not so much in a ruddy, healthy way, but from shedding his last drops of blood to show how he loved us all). :hug1: :crossrc:

😊 < I didn’t notice which FORUM this was in til now. I meant no harm posting in a light conversational tone …* if** that is against this forum’s rules. I hope this is ok. The topic seemed more light and quizzical than a deeply solemn one that might be disturbed by a seeming irreverence.*

Here’s another hypothetical image of what Jesus might have looked like based on what a Jew in 1st century Palestine might have looked like. He has short hair, which Jesus probably did as well.

It was skin colored. i leave it at that. i’ll know for sure on judgement day.

Not yet.

But with time and global warming, descendants from EU, NA, SA or Asia will have children there.
