When Jesus was dying on the cross, He didn’t say much. But He did manage to utter a few words - and amoung those words were instructions to St John to look after His mother.
A dying man - a few more moments to give your last intructions to the world. He says “Forgive them” and “she is your mother”. - which is probably the two most important things a christian would need to know.

I think NTBible does not mention true life accounts of JesusYeshuaIssa; Quran mentions it very clearly and factually:
So Jesus was a model of good behaviour with his mother; though NTBible does not describe it in a proper way.

Other then what the other posters mentioned–there isnt anything written in the bible about it.
Of we all know He did because He was sinless, but IMHO
He was kind in talk with her,obediant when she asked Him to do something, always shoed her love, obviously made her proud of Him:thumbsup: Always good.
I cant even imagine my kids being like this
I keep telling my kids all I want for mothers day is their obediance–FOR ONE DAY-without hassle.
That, Im sure , is what Jesus was like to His mom.

Well I would say since Jesus is God the list is quite broad… I’m not sure living with her for 30 years was one of them… Just kidding

I agree with you; but this is NTBible. Peaceful Quran does not mention that Jesus said anything like that. Maybe it is an attempt by some scribe to belittle Jesus. One never knows.

Only to modern ears. It is a reference to Mary as the one in Genesis 3:15 as well as the last book of the Bible, Revelation, the Woman Clothed with the Sun.why did jesus call his mother “woman”? that sounds so disrespectful.

Also, remember when The Blessed Mother and St. Joseph found Him in the Temple and He went with them afterward? How respectful was that? He obeyed His parents and grew in wisdom and understanding. They were indeed the Holy Family.

As Christ was the new Adam, Mary was the new Eve. So Christ called her woman, as adam had called eve woman. It is incredibly high respect. Things like this illistrate why it is important to read the text in its context, not as if it happened today.why did jesus call his mother “woman”? that sounds so disrespectful.

You are stretching it. Besides, Mary wasnt the mother of those guys who wrote Genesis & Revelation, so even if they knew mary they are not required to call her ‘mother’. We are talking about Jesus here. He is the one who called his own mother ‘woman’. Odd.

In Luke when a woman in the crowd would honor His mother by saying: “Blest is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you.” Jesus replied that “Rather blest are they who hear the word of God and keep it.” To me this means that Mary deserves much more praise than just having given Him flesh. Rather she (and us, if we follow her example) is to be praised for saying “Yes!” to God all of her life—not just at the Annunciation. And how much that “Yes!” cost her. Simeon had an inkling when he prophesied that a sword would pierce her heart. But she actually went through the pain of watching her Child beaten, spat upon, nailed to a cross, dying naked before all the world. And she never took back that “Yes!” but continues to spend all of eternity praying for the children who did that to her Son, just because He gave us to her with His dying breath!
Thank you, Jesus, for not only making us your brothers and sisters—thereby adopting us into the family of the Father, but also for giving us your Blessed Mother to be our Mother too! Mother Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.

It is only odd to us in the 21st century world, back then it would have been 1) not that disrespectful in an everyday situation 2) especially was okay because Christ is theologically the new Adam, and Mary the new Eve. So he calls her what Adam called Eve.

Tiger Woods is called the Man on the Golf Course. It does not mean the same thing as calling him “man” out of disrespect, it is the opposite: all other males have to live up to the example that he set.
Now, back to Jesus. Calling His Mother “Woman” is the same thing. He is saying that she is the example that all women must live up to.

If Jesus called her “woman” and you think it is disrepectful, then there must be something important to find out why He said such a thing!
AgnosTheist, I’d recommend to read the book “Hail, Holy Queen”. There are much to read on this book regarding the NT and OT and how it related. The word “Typology” is mentioned in the book a lot.

Of course it isn’t meant to be disrespectful, how could it? He’s Jesus, he would not be disrespectful to his own mother… what kind of an example would that be setting for us… others have explained it’s deeper meaningwhy did jesus call his mother “woman”? that sounds so disrespectful.
