How have come to know that the RCC is one true church?

Because I believe God works within what He has established since the beginning. He established a People united in blood who with their bodies have made visible the Word of God. Then, in the fullness of time the Word of God came down from heaven Himself and confirmed the Word as revealed by His People. Those who were His remained and reformed that community united in blood but now united in Spiritual blood made manifest in the Martyrs. The People of God are a tangible visible witness now built on Rock and like rock they make a traceable visible Witness to Truth since He entered history.

Christ is flesh and bone and that is the guaranteed conduit of His Spirit, His Life and His Salvation.

The Catholic Church is the only body of people that can claim that history.
Paul has that faith in the H.S.; why don’t you?

Banadam:
Paul in everyn passage you post is refering to Sacred Scriptures being taught. It’s a rare individual who has picked up a bible and come to know Jesus without someone teaching them. Paul speaks of Timothy’s childhood, why? Because Timothy ‘learned’ from his parents. Paul is refering to Timothy as someone who comes from a family grounded in the authentic teaching of scripture, not as someone who picked up a bible as a child and learned on his own what Christ had to come Himself and teach.

Not a single passage refers to Scriptures as something that teaches in of it’s self but something that a chosen teacher (Timothy) can lean on in unforseen circumstances as a sure guide. Why? Because Scriptures will remind Him of what he already learned and with the Grace of the Sacrament of Holy Orders be lead by the Holy Spirit as a ‘teacher’ fit to teach authentically the True Faith.

Don’t mistake who Paul is speaking too.
I’m very aware of the recipient of the epistle, and am making a general application of those who are brought up in similar homes; homes that have been taught by the Spirit (1 Jn 2; Eph 4)—you can count on that.

Are you disagreeing with Paul’s statement in 2 Tim 3:17? ISTM that you are.

That’s what you believe, but how do you know that what you believe is correct?

After all, you’re the one who stated that one must have the authentic meanings of words; didn’t you say that?

That implies that you don’t know what is the authentic meaning of scripture and history, and yet, you claim that the church that you’ve chosen does; but, how do you know that if you don’t know the authentic meaning of the words of Scripture for yourself?
Banadam:
I will answer this by reminding you of your chosen quote at the bottom of your posts.
ISTM that my questions make you uncomfortable, but you’ve put yourself on the spot with the philosophizing you’ve done in the posts to which I’ve responded. 😊

Nah, you really don’t. Because Paul was speaking to a newly established shepheard and teacher of the True Faith. Are you that?

Are you disagreeing with Paul’s statement in 2 Tim 3:17? ISTM that you are.

**You think that because you think anyone can decide for themselves that they are a teacher of the True Faith. Paul disagrees. **

That’s what you believe, but how do you know that what you believe is correct?

Because I am a member of the community that Jesus started and they teach what Timothy learned from Paul.

After all, you’re the one who stated that one must have the authentic meanings of words; didn’t you say that?

exactly

That implies that you don’t know what is the authentic meaning of scripture and history, and yet, you claim that the church that you’ve chosen does; but, how do you know that if you don’t know the authentic meaning of the words of Scripture for yourself?

**Truth came to us in flesh and blood. **

**Tell me when did that seize to be? **

That’s the conduit of Christ’s Spirit, Life and Salvation. That is Christ’s Body. I receive the authentic meaning of Sacred Scripture from the community that gathers around Christ since the beginning. No you are the one who must say that Truth has no witness on earth because you believe the True Faith was lost.
You believe authenticity in regards to Scripture is relative I don’t.

ISTM that my questions make you uncomfortable, but you’ve put yourself on the spot with the philosophizing you’ve done in the posts to which I’ve responded. 😊

**No, you aren’t making me uncomfortable. Believe me your questions aren’t new ones. I do think you should be reminded ( again) of the quote you wrote. **

I believe that your church teaches that Paul wrote the epistle to the Hebrews; in that epistle, he makes this statement to the Hebrews:**Hebrews 5:12

For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.**From that verse, what action does Paul expect of those who believe?

They ought to be, what?

You make this statement:
I know words are transient symbols attached to concepts. The concepts that the author’s of Sacred Scripture had in mind are what are Holy the particular words used by translators and editors of bibles are if they are given their authentic meaning.
In light of that, I asked you “then, how do you know that what you believe is true?

To which, you responded:
**Because I am a member of the community that Jesus started and they teach what Timothy learned from Paul.
That’s the conduit of Christ’s Spirit, Life and Salvation. That is Christ’s Body. I receive the authentic meaning of Sacred Scripture from the community that gathers around Christ since the beginning.**
Again, you’re telling me what you believe.

You claim that the church that you’ve chosen has the authentic meaning of the words of Scripture; with that in mind, I ask you again, how do you know that your church has the authentic meaning of the words of Scripture, if you don’t know the authentic meaning of the words of Scripture beforehand, for yourself?

You’re mind reading again, and you’re wrong on both counts.

With respect to the former, the true faith will never be lost; it is recorded in the Sacred Writ.

To begin living a sacrificial life.

They ought to be, what?

examples

You make this statement:In light of that, I asked you “then, how do you know that what you believe is true?

To which, you responded:Again, you’re telling me what you believe.

Ahh, ok I get what you ask now. I know the Catholic Church teaches the True Faith because Christ joined me in suffering and it wasn’t me suffering but Him. I know because only that circumstance could have drawn out a likeness to Him that He could join. During this time Christ revealed Himself to me in such a way that I thought He had not been revealed or no one knew. It’s very hard to admit, but to suffer as He did is to know Him more deeply and therefore Sacred Scripture as well. But I found that what I thought was new was always taught by the Catholic Church. What a relief!

You claim that the church that you’ve chosen has the authentic meaning of the words of Scripture; with that in mind, I ask you again, how do you know that your church has the authentic meaning of the words of Scripture, if you don’t know the authentic meaning of the words of Scripture beforehand, for yourself?

ok.
I believe the Catholic Church is a community
, one and the same as the community that gathers around Jesus since the beginning.

Now with that in mind.

Why do you think I believe that what they teach is authentic?

You’re mind reading again, and you’re wrong on both counts.

With respect to the former, the true faith will never be lost; it is recorded in the Sacred Writ.
**Believe me if it is locked within transient symbols…it is lost …He’ll have to come to do it again. **

**Recorded it was before Jesus came. Jesus had to come because only He could authorize it. You make that null and void insisting it has not been authorized on earth. **

In other Words He didn’t authorize anyone to teach it to us today, according to youjust those long ago. Eternal what? so no authority is being exercised what evidence is there that it exists? Eternal Authority isn’t Eternal after all I guess?

Jesus used the symbol of an orphan when describing us when He left the world. He wouldn’t leave us that way. What do you suppose the remedy for that condition is? What did Jesus do that keeps us from being orphans while He is gone?

When Jesus was dying on the cross, He didn’t say much. But He did manage to utter a few words - and amoung those words were instructions to St John to look after His mother.

A dying man - a few more moments to give your last intructions to the world. He says “Forgive them” and “she is your mother”. - which is probably the two most important things a christian would need to know.
It’s worth noting how Christ on his way to Jerusalem before the end, encountered a funeral procession where there was a widow grieving the death of her only son. This was a death sentence for a widow back then as they were generally helpless. He then raised the young man from the dead. How agonized he must have been dying on the cross, with his mother, in tears at his feet - a widow who would be every bit as helpless after losing her only son. He then gave her to the protection of the disciple he loved - I think giving us an example of how to take care of our parents.

Also, after being found in the temple at age 12, it is said they returned to Nazareth and he was obedient from that point on.
