and He was kind eneogh to write it but not say it aloud. I’m kinda thinking what He said is what he wrote. Putting the eyes of man over God the Truth didn’t accuse them untill it was known by all.

I wonder now if this story reveals how the Oral Tradition and the Sacred Scriptures work together.

I sure like the heart and the earth connection.

I believe in the OT, the man and the woman were supposed to be stoned.

Sexual intercourse between a man and a woman engaged to another man (both should be stoned, Deut. 22:23-24)

Could it be as simple as That THEIR sins were as numerous as grains of sand?..or
Does this point to some ancient custom? or Did one of the Patriarchs write something in the sand?
In the OT God wrote to Moses on Stone, which was the Law, and put in the ark of the old Covenant. In the NT Jesus’s Only writing is in sand and there’s ONLY speculation as to what is written? This HAS to signify Something???

I did not read all of the other posts so I hope I am not repeating anyone.

But I know this one.

Father told us one day in Church. The reason Jesus was writing in the sand is he knew the womens sin, and did not want to embarrass herany more than she was. He knew her humiliation, and what she went through and felt compassion for her. So the reason he looked in the sand was so she did not have to look him in the eye. Awesome huh!
 
Actually, I heard a much different take on what was written.

I could be wrong, but this is the oldest case of the words:

Jesus Saves…

but wouldn’t you know it. Someone immediately added:

…At the First Jerusalem Bank!

As it’s all speculation to what He wrote to the audience at THAT time…That answer is just as plausible. If He wanted US to know…He would’a taught it.

I love your humor. 🙂 Sometimes, I think we take ourselves toO serious. I really think God chuckles. He must - didn’t He make us in His image:D

Oh Im sorry I was telling why. The way I was told Jesus was just drawing lines in the sand. He never wrote anything.

Exactly what I said!😃 Why else would they walk away? Knowing her sin? They knew her sin…it’s just that they did not know that Jesus would know THEIR sin!:eek:
 
Is it just me, or did they just walk away because of the wisdom of Jesus’ words?

If what Jesus wrote made them walk away, wouldn’t the inspired author be driven to write it?

You mean when Jesus that the one who has never sinned to throw the first stone? Or do you think they left AFTER he wrote in the sand?

The inspired would not know what was written int he sand probably because it was personal sin and I cannot see Jesus flaunting the men’s sin so eveyrone could see. He does not humiliate.

But I can see them walking away with shame knowing that they did have sex with the woman (or any woman) or lusted after her anyway…Only God could shame they that way to sear their conscience to turn away. Any ordinary sin would just not do it…I think anyway…

In my opinion, they left because they saw the wisdom of Jesus’ words, not because of anything he wrote in the sand. What he wrote was of no importance, or it would have been included in the Gospel.

BTW, numerous early manuscripts left this scene out of the Gospel because people felt that people would mistakenly think that Jesus condoned adultery.
