My statement was not contrary to this. This seems to be an interesting basis. Catholic spiritual formation is based upon the revelation of God. It is within the framework of what He has revealed as True that we interpret and understand our faith and experiences of the divine. Without the boundaries supplied by His revelation it is easy to get out of bounds with our own interpretations and experiences.
I agree that there is only one Truth. When two people disagree, they are still both in touch with that Truth (i.e. “legitimate differences”), but as Pope Benedict said, we are to find harmony. There is only one Truth, OS. There is not one version for me, and another for others. That is relativism, a concept soundly rejected by the CC.
We can find harmony, guanophore. The biggest disagreement you have against my views is that I have observed that no one knowingly and willingly rejects God, which has a basis in “Forgive them, for they know not what they do.” If my observation is invalid, that is, untruthful, then simply present your own observation, and we can scrutinize it. Or, if you would like me to explain my point, I can. We can start fresh, here, without your inference of “confirmation bias”. You have the opportunity to extend my experience, and I invite you to do so.
In the mean time, it is very helpful in understanding people to be aware of the fact that people do not know what they are doing, as Jesus observed. It is Christian, guanophore, to make the same observation. In my experience it is very fruitful to make the effort to understand what it means.
I accept what the CC teaches about this:
838 "The Church knows that she is joined in many ways to the baptized who are honored by the name of Christian, but do not profess the Catholic faith in its entirety or have not preserved unity or communion under the successor of Peter."322 Those "who believe in Christ and have been properly baptized are put in a certain, although imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church."323 With the Orthodox Churches, this communion is so profound "that it lacks little to attain the fullness that would permit a common celebration of the Lord’s Eucharist."324
Notice: the criteria for communion was “belief in Christ” and “baptized”. There is no further extension or implication. OneSheep and Guanophore are in communion, as best I can see! Did you notice also in communion with the Church? The Church is the family, the whole family. It is not simply individuals and their individual relationship to God. This is another theme that Cardinal Ratzinger emphasized in his books quite often.Persons who are baptized Catholic, and renew their baptismal vows annually and are in Communion with the faith into which they are baptized are bound by Catholic Canon Law
