Is Christ not alway with us? Even to the end of the age?

Purgatory is not a separation from our Lord.
Purgatory is getting a final cleansing before seeing Him face to face.

As one of my fave t-shirts says…
Purgatory…beacuse…
You can’t go the the Father looking like that!
:amen:

If Catholicism was the box that God created for us, I would be a Roman Catholic Christian.
You should be because it is.
I think the Protestant Reformation was about the actual box of God is contained in the Scriptures alone. That is why it will always be difficult to come to agreements on Christian Truth. Your box is much much larger than my box. But who has the true box of God for His elect?
The Protestant Revolt was about man want to control himself, rather than God being in control.

There is no such thing as an “Arminian” Roman Catholic. Arminianism has it’s roots in Protestantism and embraces Protestant principles. Moreover, the Catholic Church teaches predestination.🙂

God Bless,
Michael
Arminianism is just a form of Semi-Pelagism. Wasn’t Pelagius a Catholic Monk or Priest?

??? YOu make less and less sense the moreyou right! I don’t know maybe it’s me, I can be a bit thick sometimes. By what you write here your understanding of purgatory is faulty which of course is no shocker. I’m more intersted in your statement about Christ’s imputed rightouesness. You say you have it… while I agree Christ is perfectly righteous I would disagree that you have it!

By the way you did not answer my question! If no one is perfected in this lifetime is there no one in heaven?
Sometimes I see similarities between Roman Catholicism and Reformed Christianity. And many times, I think we are worlds apart.

Never attempt to put God in a box. There is no Box large enough to contain Him.
I try not to go beyond the Scriptures. I assume you try not to go beyond the teaching of the Magestrium (Scripture and Sacred Tradition). These are boxes of our faiths as understanding the mind and will of God.

Rome is your home too, your just to stubborn to let go and let God have control. We don’t believe in Sola Scriptura
Nah… Rome can never be my home. I am a pilgrim on a spiritual journey; I am an alien on my way to the City of God where my Heavenly Father resides. This world is not my home.

But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called youout of darkness into His marvelous light;

for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.

Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.
1 Peter 2

Someday you will be a great Catholic once you stop fighting God

Jesus Christ “gave himself for our sins in order that he might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of God and our Father- to whom be glory forever and ever- Amen” (Gal. 1:4)

“that he might deliver us from this present evil world”

Herein is the purpose of Christ giving himself for our sins. Not only to preserve us from going down into the pit; not only to rescue us from hell; not only to bring us to heaven and to present us to God; but to deliver us from this present evil world. This is a powerful and glorious truth, and at the same time, a sober reminder. We live in an evil world. And it is not merely the past that is evil, or some future generation that will be evil- but this world is presently evil.

The Scriptures often speak of the “world” - not only in the idea of a world of people, but also in the concept of the world system; that is, the wicked manner in which this world operates (Jn. 17:14-16; Eph 2:2, 3; Tit. 2:12).

And so as we see it, there are at least two ways in which this “deliverance” is to be understood and experienced by those for whose sins Christ gave himself:
  1. That he might deliver us from the curse and condemnation of this present evil world.
That is, Jesus Christ had purposed to save us and separate us, as sheep from among goats, as wheat from among tares, and as children of God from among the children of the devil. He purposed to save us from the just and holy wrath of God that was due to us on account of our sins. Jesus Christ had purposed to deliver us from the company of the damned.
  1. That he might deliver us from the carnal customs and character of this present evil world.
That is, Jesus Christ had purposed to sanctify us, and set us apart from that vain lifestyle we formerly followed- (1 Peter 1:18). In the work of Regeneration- (that first divine and experimental benefit of redemption) we who are his, have been quickened to spiritual life, and given a new heart with new desires (Ez. 36) We have been given a new nature that now hungers after spiritual things, desiring the things of God, and loathing the things of this present evil world.

Therefore both of these aspects of deliverance are in view as the object and purpose of Christ giving himself for our sins; not only are we delivered from the penalty of our sin, but the power and pleasure of our sin as well.

But Oh how blessed is the truth that those who have been born of God have truly been delivered from this present evil world! “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John 5:1) And yet if we are over comers of this evil world, we must remember that it is only because we have been “delivered” from it.

To be delivered is to be rescued, and severed from our former state of bondage. Just as Moses was the deliverer of God’s chosen people Israel, from the bondage of Egypt and the tyranny of their oppressive King Pharaoh, (representing the world, Satan, and their own corrupted natures)- Jesus Christ is the Deliverer of his people, who were chosen in him from before the foundation of the world- (Eph. 1) from the bondage of sin, Satan, and “this present evil world!”

And here, by way of inference, we may observe that if we were truly in a position where we needed to be delivered, that is- rescued, then we must have been unable to save ourselves. By definition, this is what “deliverance” implies. And not only did we need to be rescued and delivered from this present evil world in all of it’s carnal customs, company, and sinful lusts, but the fact of the matter is that we did not even know we needed to be rescued!

We were hopeless, partly because we were unaware of our hopeless state. But God knew our state, and He knew our greatest need. Our state was a state of spiritual death and blindness (Col 2:13; 2 Cor. 4:4; Lk 6:39) - branded with the guilt of iniquity; and our greatest need was that of a Savior; a powerful and effectual Savior; not one who merely tries to save, or makes it possible for us to be saved if we would but reach out and save ourselves, but one who actually saves. We needed for him, whoever he would be, to be our Mighty Deliverer. And that Deliverer was Jesus Christ the Lord.

And so now the very next question one would consider is, “Will Jesus truly deliver his people- without fail?” We answer, "Yes! Of course he will!”

And if it were asked how it is that we can be so sure, we simply answer, “Keep reading.”

“according to the will of God and our Father”

The reason we can know with absolute certainty that the Lord Jesus shall certainly deliver his people- is because it is “according to the will of God and our Father!” The scriptures plainly declare that His name shall be called Jesus, “for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Mat. 1:21) Not only this, but listen carefully to the Lord Jesus as he himself clearly and repeatedly declares,

“I always do those things that please [the Father]” (Jn. 8:29).

“I delight to do thy will, O my God . . . Lo, I come to do thy will ” (Heb. 10:7, 9; Psa. 40:8).

“I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me” (Jn. 5:30).

“I have food to eat that ye know not of . . . My food is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work” (Jn. 4:32,34).

“For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day” (Jn. 6:38, 39).

“Father, I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do” (Jn. 17:4).

“It is finished” (Jn. 19:30)!

Is it any wonder then, that the Apostle Paul, knowing all that we have layed out concerning these few short verses, is seen here to be moving into such a joyful state of praise and adoration? As we had stated before, with one mention of not just the Person, but the work of the Lord Jesus, the Apostle Paul is brought into the highest recognition of God’s glory possible. It is only when we truly understand what Christ has accomplished for us- his people, that we can truly sing God’s praise from a pure and humbled heart.

Jesus Christ gave himself for our sins that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father; and thus it is an established fact of scripture that, “by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified” for “by his own blood, he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us” (Heb. 10:14; 9:12)!

I’m not Catholic. God will not contradict the scriptures but He is in no way confined to them. The Scriptures are the Word of God. Just as there is much more to me than the words I say, God is not confined to His Word. God will not lie, we know this from His Word. So we cannot assume things about God that are opposite Scriptures BUT, God can and does regularly go “Beyond” them. If our faith is not great enough, that is a limit of us, not of God. We must simply ask Him for greater understanding, not stick to a man made box of our faith/teachings.
