What do Anglicans call their ministers?

We Anglicans approach worship and the such very similar to the way you do.
Those Anglicans that choose to take the similar approaches do. How wide and varied is your Anglican touring?
Our priests are addressed as Father and in the cases of women who are ordained, it is Mother. My priest is Fr. Andrew.
Yet how many would not dream of using that affectation in a million years? I rather suspect that this is of most recent innovation in Anglicanism itself. Among Evangelical Anglicans like Truro Anglicans…

Oh wow - your irony was almost lost on me. It was so subtle - like a piano falling on our heads.

Rawb asks a simple question and now we have to read the normal drivel of insecurities and pettiness towards the Anglican Church. I am not surprised to read this post, I have come to expect it.

Happy Advent!
How is confidence in Christ’s Church an insecurity? You must have some real confidence in your own ability to be a pope. Congrats, Jane. Good deal! To heck with Peter and the college of the apostolic succession, to heck with all those early fathers and ancient writings. You don’t need that stuff! You’re “secure!”

Heck, we can all watch Oprah to learn right and wrong, not listen to Benedict XVI or JP2! Those darn Catholics are just full of rules and regulations, right and wrong. It’s an inconvenient truth 😃

So a person who sticks to a moral code and gets angry with themselves when they leave their moral code like I did, that’s insecurity?

Good vocabulary word with “drivel” though. I like that. “Blather” is another good one. I know that you’re ok with abortion, Jane. I bet you think being pro-life is “drivel.”

I don’t own a piano, but I do have a lot of guitars. My Fender Stratocaster is pretty heavy. That’d leave a mark if I dropped it on ya. But, Jane, I wouldn’t drop it on you! I know my irony was not lost on you. But I think the faith of the early church fathers and 1500 years of church development, theology, and teachings were.

Out of curiosity, do you read the history of the Church of England? Do you know, for example, about Cranmer, Ridley, Pole, Cromwell, Edward VI, Lady Jane Grey, the Elizabethan Settlement, the Matthew Parker controversy, the non-jurors, the interegnam period, the Oxford Movement, etc. Have you gone beyond Schiori’s “drivel” (I still like that word!) and back more than 50 years into Anglican history? Have you ever studied medievel Catholicism? I know SIA hasn’t, that’s for sure! You and he are starting to have a lot more in common. I do have to give props to GKC. That Anglican knows his stuff! Man, he’s bright. He’s also willing to concede much beauty in Catholicism. I respect that guy. I like his name, too! Sounds…Catholicky!

And again, after all the anger and fire, your “Happy Advent” means a lot, right back at ya…Happy Advent! 👍

Don’t flatter yourself.

Don’t flatter yourself.
Don’t flatter myself about what? You cut and paste a giant post and just put that after it? LOL…I don’t flatter myself at all. I was the one who foolishly left Catholicism for Anglicanism and made the stupid choice to rebel against my own conscience. I was the one that tried to do what you regularly do and bash Catholicism for my own personal edification. I have nothing to flatter myself about. I just take pride in the Church I’ve turned my back on and I gain strength from being one with the Rock again and not being set adrift on a raft in a water of nuts like Rowan Williams, katharine Schiori, Spong, Tutu, and all those other nut jobs…

J.R.R. Tolkien, a good Roman Catholic, once referred to Anglicanism as “a pathetic and shadowing medley of half remembered traditions and mutilated beliefs” Dang, the old boy nailed it. I wonder if, when he wrote “Lord of the Rings,” and some of those characters who cowardly went along with the dark lord, Sauron, because they were too scared to stand up to evil, I wonder if he had any denominations in mind? All those whimpering, simpering cowards who refused to fight the evils of their age instead of living the faith and courage of their ancestors…hmmm

You can’t really be as confused as you sound here, or maybe you can be. You are still in a church who can lay claim to clergy who have sexually abused minor children to the tune of 107 convictions and more to come in the wake of the largest sex scandal in the history of Christianity. If it isn’t mind boggling confusion that someone would continue paying homage to a church who ignored this horrific activity for centuries then I sure as hell don’t know what is and would be scared to death if I ever saw it.
100% wrong again, SIA. The Pedophelia story was a deliberate knowing false hype job on the ideal Catholic Church. The Problem was late 1960’s, 1970’s as result of the false hype By Media that Priests may be allowed to marry (Never such a thought), Non-clerical clothing OK, etc, Etc. False media Hype.

The reality, SIA, is that the Top Treator of sexually abusive Protestant clergy said **Protestant Clergy Sexual abuse rate is about 30%. Data shows the Catholic pedophelia rate Was about 4% In the late 60’s-70’s; About 1-2% during last 60 years. Basically about 5000 out of Over Quarter Million Catholic Priests, Clergy had complaints filed against them, but 70% were found to be False accusations. **

So the Protestant Clergy Sexual Abuse rate was About 15 Times, 1500 % Higher than Catholic Clergy. *

**
The ‘Top Treator of Sexually abusive Protestant Clergy’ Was a Lutheran Minister PhD or MD Shrink, on a Kojo Knambe (sic) National Public Radio One Hour Callin late 2002, when all the hype was big. That NPR Program is Probably archived, and hopefully available, unless removed for its sensitivity.

If TEC is so bad, why did you go back? Must be something there you needed…

If we are a bunch of unrepentant sinners, why do you waste the skin on your fingers typing about it? Your post comes across as narrow-minded and prejudiced, which won’t convince any of us to change - why waste your time? [SIGN]If you need someone to tell you EXACTLY what to think and feel and EXACTLY how your own personal relationships with God and your spouse should be conducted, I guess you are in the right place. Who needs to really think about these things when Big Brother (Sisters aren’t holy/smart enough to count, it sounds like) can give you orders [/SIGN]like a parent with a child. I am happy for you - just don’t try to rain on my parade.

For my part, I tend to side with Shakespeare that you “…doth protest too much.” Don’t worry - we will welcome you back with open arms when you are ready.😃

Happy Advent!
Stepbrother in Christ Emeraldcoast:
The Catholic Church does not “Order” us to think exact ways. It uses great Reason for Us to accept it’s Teachings. The Church does Not use ‘power’; It uses Far more ideal Reason.
The Church does not tell us how to relationship with Our Lord; It teaches Our Lord’s teachings, and Reasons to us about them.
Aware that A Qualifier to be a Catholic Priest is 4 Years Post-Graduate Education, Before Masters or Doctorate?

Not aware that many of the Greatest Minds and “Doctors of the Church” have been Nuns? :nun2: :nun1: First Centuries on? Ever considered Mother Angelica? Her Very worldwide EWTN? Mother Theresa’s great Wisdoms? St Faustina of Poland, who died 1930’s? St Theresa of Liseaux? St Catherine? Etc, Etc, Etc?

And the Catholic Church does Not judge Any Person on Earth as an Unrepentant Sinner". That is Very Alien to Catholic thinking, Teaching which is Literally a Continuation of Our Lord’s. “Judge Ye Not, lest Ye be Judged in the Same Eye” (Way).

Ever considered where God said Truth on Earth is? Try ** 1 Timothy 3:15: **Truth on Earth is in the Apostles and His Church which He founded: Mathew 16:18-19. :bible1: :highprayer:

And The Church has, Teaches highest respect for all Ministers, Faiths, every person, because everyone is some way to the Lord, even if indirerectly. We believe with Lutherans that doing Good, Helping Others shows Faith in God, even if indirectly.

Gurneyhalleck, wow you,ve really shown your true colors in your hate filled diatribe against Anglicans, such venom1 is this really how a CHRISTIAN should behave towards other CHRISTIANS,? Anglicanism has always been and always will be a BIG TENT CHURCH where those with opposing viewpoints and consciences can find common ground in the Book of Common Prayer and breaking bread together, DESPITE THEIR DIFFERENCES. many people find this untolerable, they would rather have a Church where everything is spelled out for them from some teaching body or figure. “The EPISCOPAL CHURCH WELCOMES YOU” is the sign in front of our Churches, their are no outcasts, all sinners invited. We believe in the “CREEDS” the "REAL PRESENCE’ in the eucharist, the Book of Common Prayer as our guidebook, the scriptures as containing all things necessary for our salvation, our Baptismal Covenant; "we promise to seek and serve christ in ALL persons, loving our neighbor as ourself,to strive for justice and peace among ALL people, and respect the dignity of EVERY human being, sounds like a darn good theology to me! There is something blatantly wrong with those statistics. One in three Protestant clergy abuse children? I doubt if all of the sexual dalliances of Protestant clergy combined (including fornication or adultery between consenting adults) runs that high. Check the source on this one, and the methodology for arriving at the figures. Sounds fishy to me.

Please read THe Source of that number, and what I wrote: ‘The top Treator of Protestant Clergy Sexual Abuses’ (Not child abuse, Sexual abuse) 6 years ago, A Psychologists/Psychiatrist Lutheran Minister/Priest, on the National Public Radio Kojo Knambe (Sic) One hour callin, late 2002.

He was uncomfortable giving a % of Clergy, but did say about One Third. If anyone can guess at the Perecent, He should be.

I certainly assume he meant Youth ministers also. They have been a Problem area for a long time. Several in the DC area were in the news last few years for pedophelia.

No “Fathers” there.
Not a particularly recent innovation. Dates back to the period of the Tractarians, followed by the Ritualist movment. Say, 175 years, more or less.

But sure, some Anglicans don’t do that. As everyone points out, there are a lot of types of Anglicans out there. Including my type, not in communion with Canterbury, and singing the Angelus after every Mass, while praying for Benedict and Bartholemew.

More general yelling to follow, on the part of everyone, I suppose? Jeers, dead cats, and popular catch phrases hurled in all directions, I’ll warrant.

A Blessed Gaudete Sunday to all.

Well your name says it all—universalist. Sounds like everything is ok with you already! But then again, that which we call a rose, by any other name…You make me sound angry but you use CAPS a lot lol…

You’re not convincing me with terms like “big tent church.” Sounds circus-like and it also sounds like anyone of any thinking even if it is heretical and anti-Christian can join up. As long as you’re warm and breathing, you’re welcome. You can believe whatever you want and express blasphemous ideas but that’s cool! We don’t want to offend your sensibilities, man! Yes, I’ve seen “The Episcopal Church Welcomes You” signs. Funny how the conservatives like John David Schofield were INHIBITED by your “welcoming” bunch! Conservatives for years with traditional values were marginalized in this “big tent” and pushed out. Those who rightly believe in the pro-life movement, fight female clergy notions, find the sexual teachings of the Episcopal Church to be deplorable, all these folks have been excluded from the church and have broken-off. And it’s also funny how “Big Tent” Katharine Schiori has done a bang up job of SUING the conservatives trying to break off! She’s suing for their property! Yep, sounds pretty tolerant. When John David Schofield broke off, he allowed ANY church in his diocese to stay with The Episco-pagan, oops, Episcopal Church, and four or five did. He promised them no reprisals, no persecution, no law suits. He kept his word. I wish I could say the same for TEC.

You pointed out my “venom” lol…Man, I sound like a black mamba! Glad you gave us all the sweet anti-venom of the Episcopal Church 🙂 I don’t have “venom,” universalist. I just am tired of Anglicans believing that truth is relative, that you can be Catholic without the responsibilities of being Catholic, that a sad political convenience for an overweight and angry king in the 16th century wanting a divorce is on a par with Orthodox and Roman Catholicism, and that there are multiple truths. Your post itself makes it clear that truth is not clearly defined and cannot be clearly defined, ever. A person who believes that Christ is not the Son of God and a person who does can be in the same congregation. A person who believes a baby is not a human life until it takes x amount of breaths and a pro-lifer can be in the same church. A person who believes in Eucharistic benediction and a person who throws the Eucharist to the doves in the park after “mass” can be in the same church? Remember “Bishop” Spong? The guy denied Jesus’ divinity! He was a horrific blasphemer but in Episcopal circles he commanded great respect and has written a slew of disgusting books. Hey, Universalist, it’s your salvation. I truly pray and am concerned about Anglicans. Forgive my lack of charity but I have to call a spade a spade. You’re following a church with no theology, no sense of truth, no legitimacy in orders, and a “tent” of contradictions. This isn’t the House of Representatives where deals are struck, this is CHRIST’S CHURCH. You make church sound like a Senate sub-committee where we can come to the table and negotiate our own Jesus. I disagree. See, I only used caps once!

Do you think 107 convictions out of over 250,000 Priests last 70 years is many? Really? Why???
Awesome point, Sailka. These folks bust out the pedophilia boloney when their back is against the wall. They attend a church with lady priests under a “big tent” of contradiction and heresy. When you call 'em on it, they bust out the old vocabulary bank:

intolerant
ranting
hateful
diatribe
hurtful
venomous LOL
and then…they cap it off with “yeah, well, you have priests that molest kids!” which is the theological equivalent of “my daddy can beat up your daddy,” a sign they have no argument…SIA is an expert with that!
