What do Baptists believe?

Could you be specific about what in the rubrics forbids the Nicene creed being sung to a Hillsong tune?
I gathered that you meant using their actual songs, which wouldn’t qualify. I don’t know about a melody setting for the creed like that, although I can’t imagine why a parish would use that when there is such a wealth of Catholic music available.

Oh, and Jharek, a long time ago you and I were in a discussion with another member who was a member of some other denomination–and I’ve been trying to remember what it was for the longest time and can’t recall!–that didn’t believe in the Trinity. It wasn’t the JWs. But it was something like “californians”?

Do you remember this?
For no one in particular, except to make myself feel better, I did some research and remember that the sect I was referring to above was the CHRISTADELPHIANS.

Yay for google search! Otherwise it would have driven me crazy trying to remember this sect that has separated itself from Christnedom.

Welcome home, Pdaniels!

Just wanted to offer a clarification, though: if you are saying that just because someone is a Christian he will go to heaven, this needs to be qualified. If they are a Christian and remain in a state of grace, then he will go to heaven.
Thanks! That’s what I meant to say. My point was that, even though they are wrong in their beliefs on certain matters, in a true state of grace, they will go to Heaven. I guess I do need to watch my wording. But thank you though!
Peace be with you! 🙂

as a Southerner (who grew up around Catholics= I’m half Italian) I have always thought their views towards alcohol was odd. Please do not get me wrong, Southern Baptists are wonderful people and a strong denomination for Christ but, Jesus’ first miracle was water into wine… NOT grape juice lol.
Also, complete abstinence from alcohol is ruining their younger generations. Once, they go to college and are surrounded by alcohol they immediately dive into it and abuse it… instead of just sipping to enjoy it. Since they believe one sip is a sin they usually insist on getting overly drunk.

I have been raised Southern Baptist, and although there is no alcohol in my home and my mother does not drink (my father rarely does–but not at home) some Baptists do drink. Most Baptists refrain from drinking because alcohol affects your actions and can mess with your judgements. I understand why most Baptists do not drink; it could lead you down the wrong path if you have an addictive personality. Plus, I’m pretty sure most Baptists would agree that they believe that they don’t need alcohol to have fun or relax. I am under the legal drinking age, and have never had a sip of alcohol, but I don’t think there is anything wrong with alcohol. As long as it is not abused. There’s nothing wrong with wine, but once you get drunk, that is a sin.
“Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise.” ~Proverbs 20:1 (NIV)

And for Jewish people it’s completely different from baptists. They are raised around wine, the Kiddush cup. several glasses on Passover. It’s no big deal as compared to fundamentalists that make it exciting and new to drink.

Around here everyone is anti-drinking, my county is dry, but that does not stop them from lining up at the country club, shriners, elks, and moose etc.
