What Do Catholics Not Respect Non-Catholics?

This sort of attitude, especially when it was enforced in the medieval period through the use of political power and coercive methods (of which the Inquisition is the most notorious), has given the church a bad reputation.

in the Bible (OT) God tells some person to destroy an entire town or village because of false belief… He told him to kill women & children, so that the false belief would not spread… It was about the same as an Inquisiition, except that God, apparently, didn’t tell the person to ask any questions before acting…
So, you bleieve the Bible is the inerrant Word of God? then You have to accept this… The Inquisition was not a perfect thing but it was not as bad as some people say.not even close… People were questioned, there was a trial, they were given a chance to re-cant… etc. & many times when people were deemed to be heretics… that was when the state took over and meted out punishment… Catholic bishops & priests would attempt to intervene & save hteir lives…

But again… most people dont know that… They just focus on how awful it was to put someone to death for what he/she believed - Because that goes againt our American way of “freedom” (which includes freedom to sin as much as you want, i might add)… we freedom-loving americans are horrified about such a thing… not letting people be free to believe what they want… we are horrified by a lot of things that happened back then…

but before we go casting a judgmental eye on history… i have one word… No, 2 words:

Legalized abortion…

I rest my case…

This is my response to the threads that go "Why do (non-Catholic group name here) hate Catholics? However, I refuse to use the word “hate” as I was raised to believe that we should do our best not to “hate” anyone and I find it’s lose use on this forum somewhat upsetting.

Having been both a Protestant and a Catholic and now being pretty much neither, I read the posts here from a less biased point of view than some and I see a alot of uncharitable behavior on both sides. However, many Catholics, usually the same ones who wonder why so many folks are anti-Catholic, appear to be very arrogant and disrepectful of the faiths of others. Belittling and sanctmonious behavior are not Christ-like, IMO. Nor do they make for dialogue. To assume that people who hold sincere beliefs that differ from your own need only to “try harder” and they would see things your way is indeed an insult.

I appreciate what you are saying here but this is your own personal opinion only and I respectfully, disagree.

I believe that your comments here are inaccurate and that they are not consistant with the vast majority of posts here at CAF…at least the ones that I have read.

I find it amazing the some non-Catholic Christians, come to a Catholic forum and believe that all Catholics are going to agree with them….

I was under the impression that CAF was created for dialog and for those who had questions regarding Catholicism. I didn’t think that it was a forum, created for those who where non-Catholics, to be used by them, to undermine Catholicism or come here to try to prostylize Catholics…

Catholics do not hate or dislike Protestants or non-Catholic Christians, these kinds of beliefs, shared by anyone, are anti-Christian and anti-Catholic. We are to love our bother and to hate the sin but love the sinner.

I think maybe, you might be reading too much into what is posted here and your comments here, are too general in nature. I hope that you can appreciate my opinions, which are meant to be taken in the friendliest way…

I don’t respect any Non-Catholic Christians who thinks our Catholic faith is false religion and who claim the CC is not the Church founded by Jesus Christ. I also do not respect any Non-Christians, especially atheist who mock the Catholic faith like those people on youtube.

For most of its history, the CC regarded itself as the only true Christian Church, and also the only true religion on Earth. Ex ecclesia nulla salus - this was the view of the church right up until the mid-20th century, and even then and now, it is still a matter of doctrine that it is the most perfect religion on Earth.

There is a lot of arrogance though in people of other churches and religions who believe they have the sole truth, but this is most worrying when they back their beliefs through violence. At the moment Islam seems to have the biggest problem, as fanatics there enforce their doctrine through cruelly rigid laws that do not respect conscience or through violent means such as terrorist attacks. But, it is a problem with most absolutist religious beliefs and secular philosophies that occurs through history.

The only solution in my view, is a more humble approach to the ultimate questions of meaning and life.

**The Church has a mission: to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ Who founded His Church, and to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them, as well as passing down to each generation the true doctrines and dogma of the Faith . The Church never claimed that it was the most perfect of all religions; it is a religion of Revelation - from God Himself, not a religion growing out of the cultural context of a society. That is why it exists in all societies.

Many have the bad habit of looking at past history with 21st century eyes, as if what we have today was the norm throughout all history. The Middle Ages was a brutal age. There were no human rights as we have today. There was no literacy or education as we have today. The social structure of Western Europe was totally foreign to anything we may experience today in our time. Not understanding this, and to approach the past as if we existed then in our contemporary disposition is just wrong.
