What do expect from your church and pastor?

After reading some responses on other threads, I wanted to ask this question.

I suppose that, for me, I want more than just “Sunday parishioners” but I know that is more the norm than not (and, frankly, it would probably be appalling to see how many parishioners are registered in our church vs. how many regularly attend). I want to attend a church with others whose intentions are similar to mine (to truly serve the Lord).

The social activities are not as interesting to me and are not a deal breaker. I don’t like cliques that sometimes grow in a church that tend to reflect a sense of entitlement.

I like a church that is friendly to everyone, especially new faces.

I like a pastor who offers “continuing education” such a bible studies and more in depth study of Catholicism.

I am looking forward to see others’ responses.

I guess I’m a “Sunday only parishioner” however, seeing that I work nights and most don’t, hard to get involved, ya know?

Weekly midnight Mass would be awesome for me, since sometimes I’m afraid of going to Mass because of falling asleep behind the wheel. I have even fell asleep in the parking lot, on accident, before Mass started and when I woke up I just left, I was terrified that staying for up for Mass and then driving 45 minutes home would kill me.

I think I would like to see a bible study group or heck anything for adults around my age. It seems like it is youth and then older adults. If you don’t have kids, you are a bit pushed aside.:o

First, I need the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist. I desire a reverent liturgy with friendly, kind people. I think there should be a place fore everyone to contribute and share their gifts. I appreciate a priest who challenges me, teaches me, and most important comes from a place of love for Jesus and the parish.

This is me to a T 😃 👍

Sorry if this sounds cynical but given my experience, I expect nothing. I always get what I expect. 😃

I prefer to do my spiritual work outside the parish, and quite apart from Church groups. I hate to quote that overused line that St. Francis never said, but I evangelize by my actions, and if necessary I use words.

Oh, please do not be offended by my “wish”. It sounds as though you are participating to the extent that you can. Hugs!

I ditto what the OP and GregorysArmy have stated. I have been to too many parishes where I was but a shadow among zombies. Everyone exited the sanctuary as quickly as they could, some right after communion, maybe because they knew the next mass was only less than 30 minutes from starting, or they were trying to beat the traffic to lunch. Our parish’s narthex is crowded with folks greeting, talking, having coffee, hugging, etc. 😃

Christ in the Eucharist. That is all I really need.
Everything else is on my shoulders to give.
