And yet,James and Paul were at odds on the issue of faith and works! We know that it is not by works that we are saved! There is nothing we can do to make God love us more or loves us less! We cannot earn our salvation; it is a gift from God that we accept or reject!
Is the Holy Spirit confused? Is Paul more inspired than James?.. no… because Paul never taught the heresy of faith alone justification.
“Every athelete exercises self-control in all things…I pommel my body and subdue it lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified”(1 Cornithians 9:25-27)
“For if we sin deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful prospect of judgement, and a fury of fire which will consume the adversaries”(Hebrews 10:26-27)
“For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, so that each one may receive good or evil, according to what he has done in the body” (2 Corinthians 5:10)
“who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; 10 but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek…13 for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified.” (Romans 2:6-10,13)
Now lets see what Jesus said:
" “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven."(Matthew 7:21)
“16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” 17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.””(Matthew 19:16-17)
"32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’…41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’… 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” (Matthew 25:32-46)
“43 Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. 44 Truly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all that he has. 45 But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk, 46 the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. 47 And that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48 But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.”(Luke 12:43-48)
We are not justified by faith alone or works alone, but “faith working through love”(Galatians 5:6), our works must be done in faith or they mean nothing. Our faith would be dead faith if we have no works done in that faith, works are what make our faith living, even the demons have faith, dead faith. read James 2:14-26 again and actually think about it.
