This is where The Catholics believe in Tradition. Word of mouth from the Early Church Fathers and others who had witnessed things about Christ before the bible ever came into the hands of the people. After all, didn’t Christ speak word of mouth?

I think it is answered here:
John 20:
30Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

John had an agenda, the Gospel had a purpose.
and that is what determined what he recorded in this book.

Hi Have been reading a lot of material and listening to some of the apologetic material from Catholic sources and have begun to read the catechism (wish I had a paper copy) online and it seems we have a lot in common, but what separates seems to the issue of authority and the definition of church in relation to that authority. I plan to continue on. I also believe that when Paul spoke of oral tradition or by letter; he simply said if I write to you or if I see you which is to say the same message is contained in both. Whatever traditions or teachings all came from Jesus and was the message of the Gospel. To show otherwise one would need outside revelation and need to prove it is from God or make yourself the divine authority and say it is from God.
