What do we "do" in Heaven?

I was actually asked these questions by someone else: how do I imagine Heaven, for instance how do we look like, what age are we if we have a physical appearance, are we active or passive, do we have a partnership, do we “hang out” with others, do we learn things, do we compete, do we have emotions like anger, fear, depression, joy etc., can we lie, do we feel time, do we age or stay the same, and so on…

I couldn’t really answer most of them and only speculate. Does the Church say anything about this or is it more a mystery that no one can answer with certainty?
 
Peter Kreeft wrote a book called, “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Heaven.”

I’d suggest this book to answer some of your questions. They have a kindle version and you may be able to find it at your local library.

Whilst no one can answer with certainty, in my opinion (apart from enjoying the beatific vision) we will have choices. You have provided a list - but for myself emotions like anger, fear, depression cannot occur - in other words anything that could make us unhappy in any way. As for some some other parts you mention, I think we might well hang out with others, learn things, and regarding age/appearance - well personally I think we will be like ‘children’.

It will be interesting to learn of what others here have to say.
 
Folks who have had visions in Heaven describe everybody as a young adult, like our LORD, not as children. The pneumatikon soma reinstates human life at it’s peak, about 30 yo.

Having undergone death and survived, there will be be no need for anger and fear, etc.

And we certainly will know others, even as we are known.

Not a deep answer or enlightening but… we will be in full communion with God, loving Him and worshipping him forever in peace and love. Sure sounds like Heaven to me!
 
Thanks for your answers. I have to admit that I never thought about specifics when it comes to Heaven. I just imagine that we are in the presence of God’s love. Depression, anxiety, anger etc. are all feelings of the absence of God. I never thought about all the other things mentioned though.

We shall explore, share, enjoy, create and participate in the infinite wonders and beauties of God’s Creation with the angels, saints and all those we love - but in this world it is impossible to grasp the full meaning and significance of His wisdom, power and glory. What we can do now is recall the happiest moments of our lives when we wished they would last forever and our regret that the past would never return. In heaven those moments will return because we shall no longer be in time and space but in the eternal presence of Love…

I liked that. For me it brings forward another reflection on this topic - i.e. a perspective of life’s emotional experiences, imaginations/memories etc., and how they might be re-enacted so to speak within the glory of our eternity in Heaven.

There are so many aspects of joy and fulfilment in heaven we need more time to think about it. I neglected the role of God, unwisely taking for granted…

People’s main preoccupation seems to be with hell - which is not the primary concern of Christianity. Jesus brought us a message of love not hate! 🙂

Maybe because we have people like Michael Voris who “educates” us that probably 99, 99999% of us will go to Hell and only a small elite group(which probably includes him) will go to Heaven:

That makes sense in that avoidance of dangers is more important than dreaming of reward.

Well, we will “experience” them all again when our minds are “backed up” from our non-functional (ie, dead) human heads into our pneumatikon soma; and b/c of the clarity of everlasting life, we will understand everything perfectly. This might be part of the “life review” we are said to receive at death.

Well - this question has two aspects, now, and later.

There will be a “new heaven” and a “new earth” - so we can think about what heaven is like now, and then what will the “new heaven” be like, and likewise, the “new earth”, after we have received our glorified bodies at the general resurrection.

Hey - ya know what? In the end it’s all speculation!! 😃 No one knows, and all we have is Faith and Scripture. So, we live a holy life, and pray to end up where God wants us.

Why do we need to concern ourselves of it? At this point we should concern ourselves of getting there first. 😉

Why not also ask yourself what Heaven might be like? Many people on here don’t seem to have a problem with talking about what is sin and what sends us to Hell all the time;)

In this world we’re missing, for all practical purposes, the one thing that could make life infinitely interesting and worth living eternally. It’s the one thing that promises to be the inexhaustible source of human happiness, which is what we’re looking for already, after all. To live in this world is to be exiled from that thing, so to speak. And that One Thing is God. In heaven we plumb the bottomless depths of who He is-of all that is. Just my opinion.
