What Do We Think About Ghosts and Spirits?

The only thing we know for certain is that any ghost is not a soul that has not passed over due to unfinished business. When we die our souls go immediately to Hell if we die in a state of mortal sin and immediately saved if we die in a state of grace (Purgatory or straight to Heaven). This is an infallible Church teaching.
There are no souls lingering around.

First of all I would make sure there wasn’t some natural explanation. I once had a radio/tape player that started to not work. I was living on an island at the time and the water area surrounding some of the island was known for magnetic aberrations (with ship equipment). I took the thing off island to a repair shop and it worked perfectly, even though it had not worked the last few times I tried it. So I figure it had to do with the magnetic disturbances in the area.
Now, something stranger also happened and this was in a city. My alarm clock would go off at times it wasn’t set for in the early morning hours. The clock was running on time, so not fast or slow. I got rid of it and got another one. Same thing happened. Thing is, these were wind-up alarms, so not affected by electrical surges or outages.

God forbids contact with lesser spirits because we are to seek his will for our life not a demons.

Familiar spirits are demons that can appear as departed family or friends.

If you seek spiritual experiences just pray a daily rosary and go to Eucharistic adoration.

What about programs like “Ghosthunters”, where the technicians are actually finding empirical evidence of the existence of spirits scientifically. Of course the scientific method requires they always try to debunk the claims as natural, but when they find a voice on tape, that they didn’t hear in person, for example, the evidence is pretty convincing.
Shouldn’t we try to prove or disprove this, as we would in other fields of endeavor?

Yes, Ricky, you’re right. We are forbidden to have anything to do with spirits or ghosts, as they are often demons in disguise.
Maybe you could give your friend some holy water (you can usually find it in a church), and sprinkle it in each room. We asked our priest to bless our house.
Of course, if you’re talking about technology, anything’s possible. Phones and computers will develop glitches from any number of causes, none of which I ever thought were spiritual. Although maybe they are crosses sent by God to strengthen us and give us patience!
