My nephew & his wife do something cute with their daughters who are 8 & 11. They get all dressed up (Dad wears a Tux!) and have a nice candlelight dinner at home! That way they spend time as a family, then when the girls go to bed, Mom & Dad have some time alone to watch a movie & share some wine.
That sounds so sweet! 😃

DH sends me an e-mail invitation with a menu of what he will make me for dinner. He has spelling issues though… so one year it was:

Atlantic Samoan and asparagus.

This year… I kid you not, the starter is “Potato soap”
This made my laugh out loud!!! I thought those “Samoans” were from the Pacific! :rotfl:

Let us know how it goes with the “soap”! 🙂

As dh has an odd schedule (about 1 pm to 10 pm) we generally do lunch once a week, and will go out tomorrow to our favorite Thai restaurant. We generally just do that and cards, and I will bake him a Boston Cream Pie, his favorite. I think that dh went and bought me some jewelry this year, though (he let it slip during conversation that he was shopping…) I think he may have just simply forgotten that we don’t usually do anything big for Valentine’s Day! He is always very thoughtful and remembers birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas with sweet gifts.

We are throwing caution to the wind and grilling out in the middle of a Michigan winter!!! 😃

My DH LOVES flat iron steak, so we are going to grill out on Thursday on our little two person grill (do not want to haul the big one out).

Does anyone know if grilling in the cold is any different? Charcoal, not gas.

🤷

The only real difference I’ve seen is that you have to open the vents more to give more circulation to the coals in order to keep them hot enough…the cold air helps to cool down the BBQ more quickly than in summer. I did a couple of tri-tips roasts a few weeks ago…whilst it was snowing…I also have smoked jerky on my big BBQ/smoker all winter so it does work. In fact, I will be BBQing ribs this weekend, although it’s finally a bit warmer now around here.

Oh, another difference is that instead of a cold beer whilst grilling, a hot toddy might be more enjoyable…
