This may be a silly question but should one avoid thing with the triple 6? Like not buying things because they have this # or avoiding sites with it etc…

Realize that the irrefutable fact that the next numerical sequence of a whole number after six hundred sixty five is six hundred sixty six?

Realize that if you add one more whole number and the result is six hundred sixty seven?

Realize that if you divide six hundred sixty six by three and the result is two hundred twenty two?

Realize that if you divide six hundred sixty six by two and the result is three hundred thirty three?

Realize that if you smear fresh chicken blood in the shape of a hexagram on your floor, light a bazillion candles, and chant incomprehensible gibberish all night you’ll still have a stinking mess to clean up tomorrow?

Rewrite it as 1232 in octal, unless you are really ambitious and want to write all the 1 and 0 to do it in binary [1010011010]. 😃

It makes absolutely no impact whatsoever to my. 666 was a code; it is widely accepted among scripture scholars as a code for Nero. Getting hung up on 666 is trying to apply a 21st century understanding to a 1st century statement that was understandable to the 1st century. Unless we understand what they meant by it, we get ourselves totally misdirected.

Great answers, all. Especially Jay2

In our time, 666 is just a number between 665 and 667.

We now can not purchase any Britney spears CDs because of the mark of the beast. HAHAHA:D 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 :

yes, it is just number.

If anyone is still worried and you happen to have $666 - let me have it. 😃

Superstition is a grave sin!

“YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME”

CCC 2110 The first commandment forbids honoring gods other than the one Lord who has revealed himself to his people. It proscribes superstition and irreligion. Superstition in some sense represents a perverse excess of religion; irreligion is the vice contrary by defect to the virtue of religion.

Simply deep 6 your worries and fears. Numerical coincidence is of no consequence.

LOL!

I know superstitions are stupid, but what types of superstitions are actually sins though?
What about something like, not whistling or saying “Macbeth” in a theatre (supposedly it is bad luck and something will happen).

I had a lady at my check out the other day that paid part cash and part check. She gave me one dollar cash and then wrote her check for the remainder so she would not have q check with the numbers **6.66 in it. Oh well what ever made her feel better.

So would OCD be a grave superstitious sin? Much if theses superstitious thoughts are due largely to my OCD. Would I be committing a mortal sin if I give into my ‘religious OCD’ impulses?

aren’t most of you being too harsh? They asked a simple question of concern to them.

Peace…

p.s. yes, i know it’s none of my business, but had to say something.

Purposeful avoidance of the number 666 is pure silliness. If I indulged in this type of superstitious behavior, I’d never be able to attend Mass, as the address of my parish church is 666 Filbert Street.

One of the big scare-tactics promoters of 666 was Hal Lindsey, author of “The Late Great Planet Earth.” He went on at length about the sinister significance of the number.

What he didn’t tell his readers was that his publisher, Doubleday, was located at 666 Fifth Avenue in NYC!

OCD is a sort of illness and thus not a sin in itself. Yet it can lead to sin if you choose to succumb to the impulses you are vulnerable to due to the condition.

Maybe you could check out Scrupulous Anonymous, a ministry of the Redemptorists who work with people with religious forms of OCD.

I have succumed to these impulses MANY times. Were those mortal sins?😦 It is very hard for me not to because it feels like if I don’t God will somehow be upset. So I’m torn between ignoring my impulses and feeling like I may have offended God by eating something with a serial number that had 666 or some other thing.
