I had this thought last night - not seriously considering it, just letting my thoughts wander - of how it would be if I did not have my faith, if I just let myself go and not follow the guidelines of the church. Yeah, “free” in some weird way that might feel… but oh how empty???
I wondered how it was for people who don’t have faith.

(Just thinking now: Maybe I had this thought because sometimes I make it too hard for myself with my over-scrupulosity.)

Anyway I then started feeling really bad about even thinking that, feeling I had been tempted by the devil. Now I know, there is no sin in temptation itself, and I knew the answer to my ponderings: NO WAY!!!

I then crossed myself and prayed to God to reaffirm my love for HIM ALONE.

Is it my scrupulosity that says this may not have been enough? That I might have to do something else, like visit a church, make a special act of contrition?
But I have been getting much better with my OCD again and I don’t want to do anything that might be a compulsion.

Is it ok to just say a prayer? God knows what is in my heart, right?

I tell Him I love Him all the time. And I mean all the time. I pray, I try and wake up thinking about Him and go to sleep thinking about Him. I talk to Him during the day about all the various things that go on. Sometimes I even get upset with Him. But my priests once told me it was OK because it shows how deep is out relationship. And of course going to Mass and other “Normal” catholic christian things.
I guess I just love my God a lot and for me He is always with Me.

I think you may be being overly scrupulous. This thought came into your head and it helped you to realize that without God you would actually be less free. I don’t think God intended for us to never question our faith. If He had He wouldn’t have given us reason and free will. He wants us to choose Him and we can’t choose without deliberation. This experience strengthened your faith and commitment to God; I think it was entirely positive.

I guess I’m a bit all over the place, not very consistently praying, but I do everday I guess, I read the Bible often, sometimes the rosary and attend catholic talks, but I really need to increase prayer time, I also fast sometimes and sacrifice, it has helped me get closer to God for sure, but I still want to get more closer, have a better faith.

I found this little prayer in a book the other day and I think it applies to what you’re saying. I have been saying it daily since I found it.

“Jesus, You whom I have never seen, never heard, who seem sometimes so far away. You who are truly the “hidden God,” although the attraction of that which you have denounced is so strong, and the forbidden fruit so close, it is You, Jesus, I choose, You I prefer, You I love.”

What a beautiful prayer!

And thank you all for your replies and inspirations. 🙂 Yes, really I am also somebody who talks/prays to God a lot. I guess I just felt a little guilty about letting my thoughts wander that way…
