453. How does one keep Sunday holy?

Christians keep Sunday and other days of obligation holy by participating in the Eucharist of the Lord and by refraining from those activities which impede the worship of God and disturb the joy proper to the day of the Lord or the necessary relaxation of mind and body. Activities are allowed on the Sabbath which are bound up with family needs or with important social service, provided that they do not lead to habits prejudicial to the holiness of Sunday, to family life and to health.

Sundays are our “family days.” As much as we can, we rest, pray, and play together. We go to Mass and eat a special lunch or dinner. We try to avoid unnecessary work, housekeeping, or projects.

We’re not super strict about it, but it is nice to have a restful day together as a family without obligations getting in the way.

I work the other days but leave Sunday as a day of rest. I sleep later. As much as possible, I do cleaning and other work on the other 6 days. I’m usually tired from the week, so Sunday rest is welcome.

Sometimes, I make some rosaries on Sundays. On occasion, I visit friends.

I go to my best mate’s place and hang out with Him,
you would all love this guy He’s a great listener and He
will do anything for you. He’s not registered as a life
saver in this country but apparently He has saved a lot of lives.

Go to mass and Bible Study with friends, and maybe do something different.
A few weeks ago I had very little time but had to get stuff done, as family was coming to stay, so I asked my priest if it was okay to paint a bedroom on Sunday. He was okay with it.
It was a nice break for me since my job is sedentary. And it wasn’t the whole room, only half the walls. If I painted for a living, I wouldn’t paint on a Sunday.

In years past when I ate more normally Sunday was special via food, Eggs for breakfast and a roast dinner… although electricity costs have stopped that , Special Sunday only crockery, ground coffee etc

Now very quiet and simple but then I am home almost every day all day so each day has a holiness and apartness… I very very rarely am out at all Sunday. Had once to shop Sunday which I hated but was unavoidable… felt so wrong, but the shops were so crowded .

I work for ~12 hours…pretty crummy actually and makes me feel like crud physically and spiritually. Wish I could find a normal job with some hours that enable free time and a Church run.
