I have found shrimp chimichangas at my local mexican restaurant to be surprisingly delicious.
Fish, eggs, sometimes pasta with clam or any fish sauce, potato & eggs, peppers & eggs, tuna or salmon salad, or even a vegetable dish, etc. You can make a variety of meatless meals.I have found shrimp chimichangas at my local mexican restaurant to be surprisingly delicious.
That’s right! Tuna is the Friday special at Subway shops!Lunch is usually a Subway Tuna sammich or PBJ.
Dinner could be sushi, pasta, or pizza with ALL the (non-meat) works, extra garlic![]()
My husband had the same problem when he converted. It was worse for him because he is a professional cook and was used to tasting whatever went out onto the floor. His first Lent was a disaster; I think he may have remembered two or three times not to eat meat on Friday. After the Easter Vigil, we finally decided to make our conscious practice during the rest of the year not to eat meat on Friday. Over the weekend, or Monday, I would plan the dinner for Friday that week and would not include any meat, and I would make a point of reminding him Friday morning that it was Friday and to try and remember to skip the fried chicken and burgers for lunch. (We also made a note on the calendar). Did I mention he is from the Midwest and hates fish? It took most of the year, but we did manage to remember to skip the meat on Friday and the next Lent was a breeze in that area. The Church obliges us to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all Fridays during Lent, and the last time I asked, the priest told me it was a mortal sin to eat meat on Lenten Fridays if you do it intentionally. The other Fridays of the year, we are not obliged to abstain from meat, but we are obliged by the Church to offer some kind of sacrifice on those days, and abstaining from eating meat will fulfill that. You can offer some other kind of sacrifice instead of abstaining if you like, and have the burgers or the ham sandwich but you are still required to offer up some kind of sacrifice on non-Lenten Fridays.I have to admit that this is truely one of my problem areas.
Im being initiated at Easter night, but I’ve tried to live as catholic for six months or so already and man, abstaining from meat are difficult.
I’ve never thought of it before, but Im somewhat addicted to it.
Also I find it so hard to even remember it when Friday arrives.
It’s very often like, NO it’s Friday, right after I’ve eaten an entire cheeseburger.
Except from during Lent I haven’t been abstaining from meat on Fridays, is it really required to do so throughout the year or is it a lent requirement only?
Often Im struck with a feeling of carelessness after I’ve unintentionally eaten meat and Im giving up abstaining the rest of the particular Friday.
Even though Im aware of the severity of it Im somewhat unable to care.
Ive confessed it and Im afraid it may become a trouble area for me if its a every Friday around the year rule.
Can anyone enlighten me with their knowledge on the matter and/ or maybe a guide or some trick to remember it when Friday arrives?
