What do you feel when you receive the Eucharist?

The first few times? A sort of warm ā€˜filled’ feeling.

Now? Sort of a wheaty aftertaste. That doesn’t change anything though. I can see how it affects my life. The spirit is not our emotions. Spriitual things affect us but don’t necessarily come across as physical feelings. They are separate.

Noticing a lot of converts, and being in their position recently(a convert of less than 2 years), I would say that you hsould focus on the longing for the Sacrament as a penance. Examine yourself; know that if today you recieved in a state of giddiness, it would be unworthy because your emotions would be clouding it. THat is what i told myself; i am not ready, it is good to wait. Sometimes it feels unbearable, it is worth it. For me, I found it was excellent to practice with someone receiving a piece of a chip or something so i didn’t worry about the actual ā€˜doing it’(whichever manner you choose, in the hand, tongue, or kneeling), but could focus. Praying with my eyes closed, kneeling during the Agnus Dei was probably the most spiritual experience of my short life. I chose to receive kneeling. Feeling Him in me for the first time was magical.

Treasure everything of your first Holy Communion. It goes so fast. Now, I have to force myself, remind myself, to pay attention during the Agnus Dei, I sometimes receive and get all the way bac kto my pew before realizing i was on autopilot. If this happens, stay after Mass and pray in adoration.

Hi!!! In regard to the ā€œfeelingsā€ at receiving the Eucharist, I come to the understanding that sometimes, I am in a condition where I can detach myself from all other thoughts, and concentrate on the presence of Our Lord, on the total acceptance of His Promise, and putting all my Trust in Him. And I can’t deny that there has been certain ā€œwonderful feelingsā€. What an opportunity it is then!!!, to forget about ā€œselfā€, and, in all humility, give Him all the adoration, praise and glory that he deserves. But, unfortunately, there are times when, my thoughts wander, and I struggle to apply myself and give all my attention to the presence of my Lord. My flesh is weak!!!, but I am humbly aware of my unworthiness!!! He is my Lord and saviour who has offered Himself as a Sacrifice , for the redemption of my soul, and make me acceptable to God. Alleuilla, Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!!!.:signofcross:

I think that sometimes God allows us to feel distracted just to humble us šŸ™‚

I don’t know if it was me but during mass some weeks ago I actually tasted blood! :signofcross:

I usually feel my own inadequacy to be receiving.
Took the words right out of my mouth! šŸ™‚

(I feel grateful and humbled: very, very conscious of ā€œLord I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the wordā€¦ā€) I’m just very conscious of my own neediness.

In terms of sensed feelings, I’d have to say that I ā€œfeelā€ more (if this is what the OP meant by feel) right after confession. The graces of confession are very powerful and immediate for me.

Yup, these are exactly the same thoughts I have. šŸ‘

Hi mes14. I am a new Catholic who entered the church mainly because of the Eucharist. I grew up Protestant and had never seen Communion treated so reverently. There was something special about Catholic Communion, when the priest lifted the wafer in the air and said ā€œ*Hoc est corpus meumā€ *- it was Christ’s presence.
Congratulations on working towards your first Communion. It will be amazing, a full acceptance of Christ.
I personally liken receiving the Eucharist to being dissolved, like a grain of salt in the great sea. Unifying with the magnitude of Christ’s love, overwhelmed by his mercy.
Your first Communion will be the begining of a lifelong walk with Him.

I’m in RCIA and am looking forward to the day I can receive the Eucharist. I actually have before. As a teen/young adult I went w/my Dad (a baptized/confirmed Catholic living as a Mennonite) and we walked up a received mass at a service the one time we went together. I didin’t know you weren’t supposed to if not Catholic. ANyway, I didn’t feel anything differently than I do w/regular communion in Protestant churches. I hear RCs often have this amazing experience and can really feel his presence. Have you?
Maybe it’s a psychological thing since you know? I wonder if anyone’s every tried the placebo effect ? Taking 1 consecrated and 1 not and seeing if there was a differnt effect on the person?
I know this is a weird question.
To answer your question directly and then add a teaching for you.

As a fully informed, fully believing, life long Roman Catholic, I personally experience Wonder and Awe:signofcross: :hypno: :crossrc:

How could I not? I know, I know that the Creator of the World, loves be enough to not be satisfied with Dying on the Cross for me, no God loves me soooo very much that in uncomprehensible humility, He puts on a Sacramental mantel, so that he can stay with me, so that He can be my Spiritual Nourishment, so that he can be my Hope, my faith and my Love!

We think Dying on the Cross is the very manifestation of Love, well my friend God ā€œonlyā€ became a man inorder to do this. To become the literal ā€œBread of Lifeā€ God now becomes Bread and Wine. Both inatimate objects. Now that my friend, is the Greatest Love Ever Known! And God does this because He loves me this much!

The teaching:

The degree that you are able to believe
, will be in direct proportion to what you, or anyone will experience.

God will help you, guide you, bit it is up to you. Do a Google search of 'Eucharistic Miracles. Our God is an Awesome God:extrahappy:

Yes I experience Awe and Wonder! Thank you Jesus!

Sometimes, I feel the comfort. Most of the time, I feel nothing. But all the time, I know who it is I have just received. And that beats any feeling.
