The Crusades were a noble thing and I think we need one right about now.
And another inquisition.

I see far eastern religions as philosophy and not theology. I recognize them as Empirical Immanentism.

Dear Kevin Walker,

Would you please explain the term Empirical Immanentism?

Since Buddhism has no “god”, I agree with you on seeing
it as a philosophy. So what is immanent?

Are you claiming that it is a form of subjectivism?
That it is solely an activity that starts and ends
in the mind?

I look forward to your reply,

Thanks,

Hi, reen12,

I will gladly explain what the expression ‘Empirical Immanentism’ means as applied to Eastern Religion.

In Buddhism, any enlightened practitioner can achieve Buddha-hood or Buddha-head; but not so in Shinto, Confucianism, or Taoism, or (in Japan) Zen! Buddhism is not the only Eastern religion. So what is Empirical Immanentism?

Do not separate the two words. Empirical Immanentism is the direct observation of the interaction of what is seen and what is observed in nature. There is no ‘God’ or pantheism involved in Empirical Immanentism - it resembles pantheism without a deity.

For further clarification please read: ZEN AND JAPANESE CULTURE by Daisete T. Suzuki.

Empirical Immanentism appears to be the basis of all the Eastern religions. Man’s observation, not God, as inserparable from nature, the becoming one with the world.

Dear KevinWalker,

I appreciate your reply!

You know, I can’t say that I’ve learned anything
new in philosophy in years. It’s a pleasure to
learn an additional term.

Thanks for your courtesy,

reen12

Oh, of course. You wouldn’t separate the two
words, would you? You know, I think you’d
make a fine teacher.
