James “the Greatest” makes his annual appearance at the conclusion of the 10:00am Mass.
Way to liberal for me.
Discuss.

Here is another shot of the Float at Mass. I think Pope Benedict 16th needs to do a crack down when it comes to the Mass. Simply out of control. A circus atmoshere. Where is the solemness?

The Church I attended as a boy was overwhelmingly Italian, Sicilian actually, and they had numerous parades and processions especially on the feast days of St. Joseph and on those of the Blessed Mother. These invariably included statues which were carried on the shoulders of the faithful as well as banners and signs etc of the different organizations involved. They were generally led by the Priest and several deacons or altar boys. They would bless and incense the route using prodigious amounts holy water and incense. The processions wound through the neighborhood, and would culminate by entering the Church and placing the statue in its rightful place. I never saw one quite like this though. Was this a special feast day or something ?

It’s really a float?
How bizarre.

Other than the giant float, should the sanctuary be split up so?

The antics of the liberals are giving me high blood pressure! AT SIXTEEN!

Im 21 and right there with you! This is outrageous

What, is it actual proof that weirdos have officially taken over control of the church and those in control of it? That is horrendous, absolutely. You can’t even compare that float to the processions of say a statue of Mary that occur outside the church.

From what I have read this is the way all churches should look. At least to many.

I am 30 and I also feel the same…

What Rome can or will ever do to insert some solmness back into the liturgy? And whats with that altar up on that odd circular platform in the middle of the church?

The Church architecture itself is very reverent, but the whle sanctuary appears to of been wrecked. It is apparent it was originally built to be a Catholic parish, but since Vatican II (probably) it has evolved (or devolved) into something rather outside the norm of what one would consider a typical Catholic parish to be.

It all seems very new-agey if you ask me…:whacky:

Someone decided to move the Alter and everthing that goes with it from its rightful space up by the wall to a place “amidst” the people.

It’s an attempt to emphasize the “Universal Priesthood of all Believers” at the expense of the “Special Priesthood” of the Priest.

They decided that the Church was somehow wrong in separating the “Holy of Holies” from the “Holy Place” so they eliminated the “Holy of Holies”. With that, they changed they sacrifice of the Mass to the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.

They made your parish into a Protest against pre-Vatican II Catholicism.

That’s why they thought they could bring in the oversized clown, and why the ceremoney which should be all about the entrance of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords is now about finding a place to seat the giant clown.

That’s why every service is about why God is sooo… lucky to have us brats for his children and why the priest had better not mention those wortds “sin” and “judgment” of we’ll heckle the poor man from all sides.

And, That’s why you’ll be hard pressed to find REVERENCE, let alone SOLEMNITY in that Church.

I think I’d better stop the rant now… Suffice it to say that the Alter needs to be moved back to a spot some 10 to 15’ off the wall, with the Blessed Sacrament in a tabernacle on a smaller (but same height) alter between it and the wall.

And, the giant clown needs to excommunicated.

In Christ, Michael

It’s mass, not a Macy’s parade…I wonder whose brilliant idea it was.
I would love it if Benedict cracked down specifically on this kind of cra…stuff.

As palmas85 stated, this sort of thing is big in Europe. As this Church is named for St James I would be that this occured on his name day.

But then I am a Byzantine and I see nothing work with processions and carrying of Icons, or for you Latins Statues.

Also if this occured after the Dismissal then it occurred outside of the Mass.

Just love how people hunt the 'net for pictures like this and have no information as to what was happening or why.

I totally agree with what Byz is saying here. Parading statues is a very old tradition, not some ‘liberal’ invention. It’s very common in Latin America still. It’s a special festive time for the Parish to honor a saint or our Lord. There is nothing ‘liberal’ about this at all.

I don’t see the point of this thread at all. It serves only to mock a legitimate ancient practise.

I’m sorry, but I don’t think this should even be ALLOWED inside the church doors. It is still God’s house before, during, and after mass.

Actually, I was searching for pictures of the High Mass, you know with clouds of incense and all the beauty, on google and I ran across a black and white one and clicked on it. I decided to look at the other liturgy pictures. So you are off the mark on that comment.

Also, I think the new layout of the cathedral stinks. No matter what anyone says the reverance and solemnity have decreased inside that church. Modernizing is not always good.

…so has anyone come to a conclusion as to when, where, why, this was done???

…Or better yet, did the person who started this thread check in to the above mentioned before publishing it???

Looking at the congregants, they all look quite solemn to me.

Didn’t Jesus say something about not casting the first stone???

Just my 2 cents!
