Just curious to know what folks here think about Calvinists…
They seem angry and confrontational. That doesn’t mean I think they are bad or anything, but I believe they believe people are intrinsically evil and bad and are very rebelious toward God.

Just found this old thread.

I didn’t know his birthday was upcoming but now that I am aware of it, I’ll have to do something. Just what should I do…?

Lately I’ve been picking randomly through some of Calvin’s and Luther’s writings. This is exactly the impression I get from reading them… that they were angry, rude, generally not very nice guys. I suppose one must allow for things lost in translation from the original languages to English…

I think they are my seperated brethren. I love them and I pray for them.

I think we need be tolerant of their differences. We need refain from bigotry [which we catholics are very good at-see how some hate freemasons and muslims]

I humbly beg the forgiveness of Calvinists [freemasons and muslims] for our begotry prejudice and lack of tolerance at their differences and right to be different

I think that the Reformed Church [or Calvinism] has much in common with other mainline Protestant Churches. We have in recent years seen enormous growth towards ecumenism [thank God] in which the Calvinists appear to be as much committed as Catholics.

I do struggle a bit with the Calvinist doctrine of pre-destination. Just because God knows how history/the future will unfold, does not necessarily imply that everything is determined which denies human choice. This of course implicates ‘once saved always saved’ but with that one exception credit must be given for their moves towards adopting a common rite of service particularly in reference to their Communion Service.

We cannot and [in my humble view] should not ignore the fact that Reformed [and other mainline Protestant] clergy have administered to dying Catholic Soldiers in the Middle East where a Catholic Priest cannot be obtained. 👍

Some Calvinist Ministers in Theatres of War, even carry a ‘Roman rite equivalent’ of annointing of the sick/dying for Catholics. Tragedy then that this administering to the dying is still considered invalid by the Catholic Church, when they are doing the best they can with [what Catholicism considers] invalid Orders.

I have respect for all my separated brethren within Mainline Protestantism and that includes the Reformed [Calvanist] denoms. I ask for their prayers as indeed I pray for them 🙂
