I used to watch it all the time when I was a protestant-non denomonational. I don’t think I really believed what they were preaching/saying though…

But remember these people???

Benny Hinn

Paul and Jan Crouch

Myles Monroe

Rod Parsley

Casey Treat

Marylyn Hickey

Kenneth and Gloria Copeland

Roberts Lairdon

Kenneth Hagin/Rhema

Creflo and Taffy Dollar

Charles Capps

John Hagge

Rod Parsley

Leroy Thompson

TD Jakes

David Jeremiah

Joel Osteen

etc etc etc…

Sorry about the long list, but feel free to comment on any of them…

Thanks…

My dad used to watch TBN a lot.

They have some worthwhile and edifying programming. However, it seems that over the years the importance of money and fundraising has taken over. For example, they seem to always be conducting telethons where they have guest preachers telling people to “sow seeds” of a thousand or more dollars. Sorry, but God is able to impress upon my heart what if anything I should give to TBN or some other ministries. And, God ain’t told me to give TBN no $1000. Thank you!

Some of the Scriptural exegesis and explanations that these preachers provide to justify their doctrines surrounding wealth, poverty, and financial contributions seem to me to be distorting Scripture, when they use Scripture at all. To me, many of the health and wealth gospels that are preached on TBN seem based more on New Age metaphysics than the Bible.

Also, the financial scandals having to do with the Crouches and the people that they promote and give a platform too by now are just getting ridiculous. Years ago, they were shocking. Now you expect to hear something crazy coming out of TBN. It’s just sad.

But that is all just my opinion.

I try not to at all, the name it claim it, wealth, health God wants you to be happy (based on the world’s standards). A number of them you mentioned have had serious moral and financial scandals in their lives. That stuff is very dangerous and the deeper you go, the bigger the problems. I was very happy to throw out that garbage out and any Catholic should not be watching or supporting any of the above.

I have a different take. I watch it when they have an old classic Christian movie on.

Which they do every once in a while. I’ve been surprised that “Miracle at Fatima,” “Song of Bernadette” and “The Passion of the Christ” (very Catholic) have been among them.

Last week they had the classic “Barrabas” from 1962 starring Anthony Quinn and Ernest Borgnine.

I think they had the “Greatest Story Ever Told” on during Easter Week too.

I’m not sure but I think I’ve seen "King of Kings’ “One Night with the King (story of Esther)”
“The Ten Commandments” and “King David” at different times.

As a result, I often check TBN – though I don’t usually watch the evangelists. Still - they’ve made my favorite channel list on the surf through. 🙂

Wouldn’t it be something if TBN showed stuff featuring Michael Voris or John Corapi?

Only thing I think of is prosperity gospel. “If you tithe and believe you will be rich like me.” I used to watch it a lot until I actually started paying attention to what they were saying. It’s pretty sad how they continue to con innocent and for lack of better words naive (not meant to be offensive) people.

They actually show some movies on there that are actually pretty good.

I can’t remember if I actually seen or just read online but I think they show Bishop Fulton Sheen on there as a syndication.

What little I’ve seen of TBN makes me sad. That intelligent people can take the true gift that God gives us and distort it into a prize you have to earn with money.

Send me $1000. and I’ll send you One Confirmed Miracle from God. Wait, wait, someone out here has a sore throat, that will be healed in the morning.

Don’t be late for the Rapture. Another group which simply can’t leave the Jews alone.

First Christ was coming in 48, according to Hal. Now, I see they are all backpedaling since the batting average is “ZERO” since then. I love the reasoning, “Just cause we were wrong, doesn’t mean it isn’t true”.

Is the end near? Are you ready to meet Jesus?

Why would you be surprised about Mel Gibson’s Passion being played on TBN? That movie was a hit among evangelical Christians. I’ve watched it several times and any Catholic elements that are in the film aren’t offensive to Protestant sensibilities.

I don’t really get the Fatima thing. That is surprising.

But I remember that they also showed a documentary on the Shroud of Turin (spelling?) that came from the perspective that it was the actual miraculous image of Christ on the shroud.

Great hair!!!
Voris’ hair kicks that hairs you-know-what!

Benny Hinns hair is the first thing I ever noticed on TBN. I couldn’t turn away! His hair looks into your very soul.

Haha, whenever I think of Benny Hinn I think of that song “Let the Bodies Hit the Floor”.

TBN features old Bishop Fulton Sheen episodes and even has a Catholic Mass held each week by Father Michael Manning. They once even had a one time show featuring a Catholic priest explaining the Catholic faith in a friendly dialogue with a protestant. TBN is primarily Protestant in beliefs and content but they are open to occasional movies and shows that are Catholic based. They have a policy of not allowing any show that bashes any other denomination and that seems to include Catholicism. I’ve been to two of their studios, one in Miami and the one in Dallas . They have a ‘4-D’ theatre that plays one movie about the life of Christ and one about the ministry of St Paul. They also have an indoor simulation of the path of the cross through the streets of Jerusalem in order to get to the theatre. They even have a large statue of St Michael the Archangel at the entrance foyer of each studio. TBN has a children’s network called Smile of a Child that has nice Bible based programming, such as Veggie Tales. Most of the children’s programming is Catholic safe, although occasionally Protestant doctrines seep through.

have you never watched EWTN??? try it some time see what you think i enjoy the programs and catholic TV is another one it is on internet type in Catholic TV

I flip on occasion to get a good chuckle, but Creflo Dollar was on there the other night explaining that, and I’m gonna paraphrase, that communion was “the real body and blood that is taken-(and here I perked up a little)-for all of our blessings-(insert “my money”, etc)-and it is so sacred before RELIGION just decided to do it every week and we could do this with a potato chip and a cup of water so long as we know what it represents.”

Not verbatim, just paraphrasing, but I seriously began to just shake my head in utter disbelief at how clueless this man and his ilk are. People basically go to his church because they hear the “get rich or die trying” message. He is an Amway salesman but Jesus is his product.

I grew up pentecostal, Church of God-Cleveland, TN branch, and even though I harbor some ill feelings towards some of that, I know PLENTY, PLENTY, of good old fashioned COG christians that would have been VERY MUCH put out with today’s TBN name and it claim it junk. It’s sad. It really is sad. So, I avoid this channel as much as possible but when I heard Creflo talking “blood and body” I just had to see where that was going.

Sadly, he met my expectations of what he thinks of our precious Lord in the Eucharist.

I haven’t watched much television for many years, but the things I remember about TBN are great characters like C. M. Ward and some great music by Betty Jean Robinson, LaVerne Tripp and family, Nancy Harmon, Dottie Rambo (with husband Buck), and others I can picture but not recall the names of.
