What do you want for Christmas?

**All kidding aside , a whole day of world peace. Mostly in my house .No kid argueing over nothing . I want them to all be happy . freshwater:) **

More fuzzy socks and slippers. Seriously, I have a deep and profound love for all things fluffy and comfy. A boyfriend would be nice. And I’d like for Jesus to spiritually smack me around when I behave badly and help me get closer to him.

A job. Full time with medical and dental insurance, preferably. This is what I have wanted for Christmas since 2006. Also, having a car to get to the job would be great since our bus system is not the greatest (not that I’m complaining about actually having public transport available). A car would make it easier to get groceries for my (elderly) mother who lives with me, too. If I can’t have a job, I would like to have money to pay my bills.

Of course, I could have tried really hard to land a job in retail for Christmas instead of pouring my heart and energy into opportunities that were more office type work. But, honestly, I didn’t want to do that during Christmastime (ie Advent). Been there, done that many years (retail work during the “holiday” season). So, maybe what I want for Christmas is simply Christmas (and Advent).

Honestly, I have so much to be thankful for, I have prayers that I’ve cried to God with my heart for a long time, that are now all being answered. So what do I want?

‘Not my will, Lord, but yours be done’.

Well, I thought I wanted to be able to have the day off and still be paid … or, even better, to be able to spend the day with my daughters, son-in-law and granddaughter.

Now, having heard my eldest has a lump on her liver which will be scanned next Thursday, what I really want for Christmas is for it to be a non-malignant lump and to be easily treatable so that her wedding can go ahead as planned in February.

…Oh and I’m very glad that we have been given an unexpected 12 days off by the Ministry, which means I can fly home for 11 days, see my daughters and granddaughter (son-in-law will not be able to leave his business at this time of year) and still be paid for those days.

I wish my guardian angel would give me a good hard poke (or jab?) before I do stupid things instead of letting me go off the deep end before swimming for shore. :knight2: Hmmm, I think instead I wish I’d pay more attention to my angel!

Every year it seems harder to pick the material things I want, this year it’s most book written by Joan Carrol Cruz. I read part of her “Eucharistic Miracles” book a few years ago in Adoration and it was amazing! I can’t wait to get my hands on her other books!

Ooo! I’d LOVE to get a car!! 😃 But I won’t… :o

I want this one girl to be my girlfriend. I would ask her out, but she is already dating someone else. Although I don’t want to wish her any harm by breking up with him.

Be careful, you might get what you asked for. And by that, I mean it’s a double negative and you would be wishing for your kids to be arguing about something.

Ummmmmmmmmm, let me think…

NO:p**

**Practical items around here are bought on an as needed and if we can afford it basis, lol. A gift should be special and something would not normally spend money on, especially in a limited income situation (my opinion only). Hubby knows what would happen if he bought me a toaster or a vacuum for Christmas…

then there are gray areas of practicality, lol. Like, for example, purses. If my purse is falling apart and I need a new one then it falls under the “as needed” category. But if I have a perfectly good purse and want a new one to match something, THEN it’s a gift. Same goes for things like hair care and make up. The basics are just bought as needed and something above and beyond can be a gift (yes, I have put a lot of thought into this, lol).

Also, I am totally fine with completely practical gifts from anyone other than my husband. If my parents want to get us a lamp or a vacuum or a power tool, great. useful and less money out of our pockets;)

Ok, now on to THIS Christmas:

I want hubby to come home safely and be healthy (i.e please don’t bring a cold or flu home for me and Lily!) and then I would like to win the lottery during his Christmas vacation so he doesn’t have to go back, lol. Think Santa is listening?😛

Is your husband in the army? Also, let’s remember that the focus of Christmas should be more on Christ than on Santa. (This second part isn’t directed at you or any one in particular, I just wanted to remind people and didn’t want to take up two posts.)

Here’s what I want this year, and every year…🙂

The Christmas They Need

How many children have been cheated
Out of the real Christmases they’ve needed
Those ones that some of us recall
With two Grandpas and two Grandmas

Mommy and Daddy both were there too
All the women fixing all of that food
Aunts and Uncles filled every room
So much love filled an afternoon

And after dinner we got so excited
Presents under the tree Grandma lighted !
Wee folks got toys and the teens got cash
Smiles were not lost as the cameras flashed

We never noticed what the old folks got
Much too busy with our presents they brought
Now most are gone and their recipes perished
They made the Christmases I’ve cherished

I guess all I want this Christmas day
Is a family somewhere to find a way
To give a Christmas like mine used to be
To a child or two… the Christmas they need

**Yes he is…he’s going to be away until June of next year retraining (going to be a military firefighter). So having him home for Christmas is top priority!!! Especially for our 2 year old daughter who misses her daddy:(

As for the Christ above Santa stuff… good point. But the group of people here at CAF tend to be very devout and Christ-centered…threads like this are more for “fun” than anything else although I can see how it may appear materialistic to someone on the outside looking in.**
**
So, to add my bit to the materialistic side;), I REALLY want to know what kind of surprise hubby has planned! We usually know what we are getting each other but this year he is being secretive and I am excited!**

Pliers. And a new rosary – I lost mine when I took a hard fall on the sidewalk outside our apartments last March and it flew out of my hand, never to be seen again.

Oh, and a lottery win. I have a sister who had surgery for bladder cancer yesterday, a Mama who is moving out on her own for the first time in her life after 62 years of marriage (she’s 81) ended last month when Daddy passed away, and I’d love to retire to Menorah Park and spend the rest of my life looking after her and volunteering.

But I’d settle for pliers and a rosary.

Gramatically you are right cjcapta, but my kids were rather good at arguing about nothing, so arguing about something would’ve been an interesting change…maybe freshwater’s kids also spend more time arguing about nothing 😉

See, when kids start arguing about anything or nothing they make their parents just a little crazy.

I was just thinking back to Christmases with the last boyfriend I had. He was 45 and I was 49 when it ended. We dated for 3 years . He had a saying, “I don’t do Christmas.” (Maybe it stemmed from growing up with a birthday that fell on Dec. 26th, I don’t know.) Oh, he was pretty sentimental when Christmas came around - most years - but he didn’t buy presents for anyone except his mom and dad (a gift that he, his brother, and sister pooled their money for) and his little nephew. He did take me out for dinner/drinks to nice places during Christmastime and once gave me a bottle of champagne that we shared when he visited my house a few days before Christmas. But, pretty much I got the message each year that I was not going to get a gift or a card and that no one else was. Additionally, he “didn’t do” birthdays and Valentine’s Day was totally not even in the picture at all.

Our relationship ended about 3 days after Christmas Eve (2004), after a terrible argument (about mean things he said) and he said he never wanted to talk to me again.

I never really cared if I got any gifts. I gave him little gifts and cards because that was what I wanted to do and it made me feel good to do something for him like that. And appreciated his taking me out, to me that was like a gift. Not sure he looked at it that way, but I appreciated it as if it were a gift.

But I have to say, it does something to a woman’s heart when the man in her life never wants to give her a gift. Especially if he continually announces that he doesn’t “do” gifts or cards when she hasn’t even asked for one. And, no matter how romantic, once or twice receiving a bottle of champagne from a man who takes that kind of attitude towards gift giving, just begins to seem like just an excuse to drink alcohol with a woman!

I am still single. I would love to be in love. I would love to have a husband. I would love to have a husband that even thinks a Christmas gift is just a matter of course and I’ll get her an appliance. Anything to know he thinks of me and wants to take care of my needs and make me happy is great!

You never know what you have until you compare it to those who don’t have it.

Oh, CarolOfTheBells, I made the mistake of dating, for 3 years as well, a man who “didn’t do gifts for any occasion” either. He did not even have the grace to end our relationship, simply stopped phoning, sending messages or returning any of mine - leaving me to assume that the relationship was over! Perhaps those who “don’t do gifts” are not good relationship material? 😉

I hope and pray that you find a special someone to return the love and caring you give.

Thanks. Interesting that we have shared that! I think my guy may have ended it in the same way as yours if given the chance, but he started a fight instead. Truth be told, I was getting to the point where I was going to let it fade away. I knew it was going to have to end and it was running it’s natural course. It’s just tough at Christmastime to wonder how come he hasn’t called for a couple of weeks and then ignore his call when he does! He actually called on Christmas Eve and my family was getting together on Christmas Day that year. So I talked to him since he hadn’t called in so long and he was alone too. Just wish I was quick on the uptake and said, “Thanks for calling and Merry Christmas to you too! Sure I can talk for a minute, but some family members are coming over - opps, they’re here already! Talk to you later and enjoy your Christmas Day.” Instead we ended up fighting on Christmas Eve. I kept trying to make it right before the call ended and it just got worse. Well, I’m soooo glad that is over and done with!

Yes, lesson learned for both of us - never, ever date or even befriend someone who says they don’t like to give gifts - especially if you are a giver. Underneath that facade of just not wanting to bother with gifts is a selfish person.
