I have seen this in different churches now, usually on the altar depicted as initials. Does it have any known catholic or latin meaning ?
Could it be you’ve misred “IHS” (a monogram for Jesus Christ in Greek: Iesous Christos)?I have seen this in different churches now, usually on the altar depicted as initials. Does it have any known catholic or latin meaning ?
Altars normally have labels on them to tell which way it should be installed. The Front Side is not labeled (because it would be visible), but the Back Side (BS) is. They need to turn the altar around - it’s pointed the wrong way!!!Does it have any known catholic or latin meaning ?
You can attach a picture to a post relatively easily by clicking on the paper clip icon above the box where you type in the text of your post.Hi,
Many thanks for your reply. No, it’s definately B S. I might even have a picture of it but don’t know if i can upload that here.
The term “Blessed Sacrament” is not usually used in Latin. Where the term “Blessed Sacrament” would be used in English, “Sanctissimum Sacramentum” is used in Latin.Altars normally have labels on them to tell which way it should be installed. The Front Side is not labeled (because it would be visible), but the Back Side (BS) is. They need to turn the altar around - it’s pointed the wrong way!!!
Seriously, though - maybe Blessed Sacrament (Beatus Sacramentum)? That’s a guess.
Blessed Sacrament? Ask the priest!I have seen this in different churches now, usually on the altar depicted as initials. Does it have any known catholic or latin meaning ?
