Do I have vote Republican or support Trump to be “good” Catholic? Must I align myself with the conservative Republican party?
I know what issues I care about. I believe global warming is real and serious issues. I’m against abortion. I’m for gun control. I’m against the death penalty.

No, not at all. You would want to know the candidates positions on issues affecting the faith.

Here is one resource from the CA site. Voting as a Catholic. There are many others to educate yourself.

Politics is an area where there is some room for differing opinions among Catholics, who come from all parts of the world and inevitably are integrated from early childhood with a variety of worldviews. I don’t know if being Catholic is ever easy when it comes to politics.

The Republican Party (generally) favors the sacredness of life and the family, whereas the American Democrat Party began to quickly change on this around the 1980s/90s with a secular platform. This is why devout Catholics tend to see the Republican Party as the lesser evil.

If you’re looking for a party that closely aligns with the social justice teachings of St JP II, Pope Benedict XVI, and Pope Francis, the Solidarity Party strives to accomplish that. It isn’t explicitly a “Catholic” party since it is meant to be open to anybody, but its founding members are devout Catholics. It is pro-life but also subscribes to issues such as recognizing and responding to climate change, gun control, the abolishment of the death penalty, etc.

Peace.

You’d be right at home in Europe!

We’ve been round this treadmill a few times. Prepare for a nice argument to start sometime here.

That said - the rule is we may not vote for a candidate that supports an intrinsic evil because they support that evil. We may decide that, on balance, one candidate is the lesser of two evils, and vote for them despite their support for an intrinsic evil.

You’ll find faithful Catholics of all political stripes.

The voting is done. Donald Trump is President.

( NOT Hillary )

The guide posted by Mtatum is good. There are times a Republican will be better. Times a Democrat will be better. And times third party is best. In the end you’ll have to evaluate the candidates to choose. And none of the parties perfectly align with Catholic teaching so all choices will have drawbacks.

On prudential issues, there is no party that aligns with the church for the simple reason that the church takes no position on such concerns. The church identifies the ends to which we should work, as in “heal the sick”, but she is completely silent on the means that should be taken to achieve them. If you believe Obamacare is the best way to provide health care for everyone then you should support it because you believe it will work, not because you think it is supported by the church. The church neither supports nor opposes it; it is entirely a prudential issue and there is no moral distinction between being on one side or the other.

The Church rejects all forms economic central planning so Universal Healthcare is not allowed since it is a common type of reform used by communists and Socialists.

America should instead allow the Church to run all hospitals and urgent care clinics

The issues that you care about in order of effect on our culture and for which their is indisputable evidence is abortion, death penalty, gun control, and global warming. Abortion is the only one that is clear and overwhelmingly easy to know what to do in order to drastically reduce deaths and influence the culture. If every catholic voted in every election for the candidate who puts forth the platform to eliminate abortion or restrict it then every party would begin to conform to this. Catholics have allowed much less important issues or issues that can be dealt with in several different methods to strip away the moral authority to stop a true evil that scourges our society and culture.

Must you support Donald Trump? No. Must you vote Republican? If every catholic did that the Democrats would dump the evil of abortion in two election cycles but, the prudential judgement is yours. Just do not vote against Republicans based on gun control, the death penalty, and global warming, these issues do not compare to abortion.

Isn’t the pope against the death penality? I don’t understand how the death penalty is less important than abortion?

How are you with killing babies?

What if man-made global warming is scientific fraud?

The Church allows self defense and the death penalty.

Why would global warming be a fraud?
Because the data have been “manually adjusted”, but when the data are carefully examined, then the “man-made” aspect falls apart.

There are a number of science sites that you can access such as DDP.

In fact, there will be a three day seminar … this year August 24-27, 2018 in Las Vegas.

Our group tour will be on Monday, August 27, 2018 to the Nevada National Security Site, formerly known as the Nevada Test Site. The Nevada National Security Site is a United States Department of Energy reservation located in southeastern Nye County, Nevada, about 65 miles northwest of the city of Las Vegas. Also, formerly known as the Nevada Proving Grounds, the site was established on 11 January 1951 for the testing of nuclear devices, covering approximately 1,360 square miles of desert and mountainous terrain. The tour is now restricted to U.S. Citizens only.

Willie Soon has written and spoken frequently on the subject of the hoax of man-made global warming

In fact on the side of the screen are many other speakers discussing the fraudulent aspects.

Can you help me out here? I don’t know of any such condemnation.
Thanks

What you HAVE TO HAVE is a good moral base, and a very good conscience.
Then, choose the best candidate, regardless of party.
MORALITY. Not optional. Know your faith, let it guide your decisions in everything.
