Yeah right? I was involved in many political discussions where the conservative view as to vote to save as many as you could, forgetting the other issues. Now, another issue has arose; however, the conservative view is not the same for a ‘few’ in Connecticut, if it means giving up imagined gun rights through any type of controls.
I have made more than one suggestion, all rejected for the most part, by the majority. None of it will work, they say. Guns are more sacred than anything else to some. I don’t feel that way, and I use guns, and would protect my family. I was seeking a constructive discussion, and not a cliche test of wit, to see who could condescend the best, demonize the best, get the most ‘attaboys’, etc.
Carry on, but I won’t be responding to less than charitable posts with twists of what I say, condescension, or other type snarky remarks. It’s Christmas and any time is certainly not a time for Christian to drop all charity.
Merry Christmas…I’m unsubscribing from all the threads I’m in.

Classifying people as “conservative,” “liberal,” etc. is not helpful in the discussion. Along with those tags goes preconceived notions and beliefs.
There are those of us who are realists, deal with facts, interpret those facts, and draw conclusion. Sometimes the conclusion may appear “liberal,” sometimes “conservative.” But is doesn’t matter. Dealing with facts and reality can result in progress. Dealing with emotions typically results in destructive action, usually by making the innocent more vunerable.

To understand why Jesus said this one has to read the verses that come next.
“Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then should the scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?” - Matthew 26:53-54
Jesus objected to Peter drawing the sword mainly because it would be an obstacle to Jesus fulfilling the Father’s will for him to die for our sins. So the main objection here was in the timing.

My point is don’t limit your search to only those facts which support your preconcieved notion. It is PEOPLE that kill, not the instrament they use.
In the US, per a recent article in my local paper, a significant percentage (i want to say around 30% but I don’t have the article infront of me) of mass killings have been done with FIRE! So should we elimiate matches and lighters?
A gun in an inanimate object that can no more kill, on it’s own, than a spoon can cause you to have a heart attack.
A better example… Drunk Driving kills more people every year than guns in the U.S. Do we eliminate Cars then? That would save more lives.
Point being, again, that cars, like guns, have a moral and an immoral use. The difference is the PERSON using them, not the object themselves.
But, in Drunk Driving, I can’t use a car to save people. In gun violence, where the bad guy doesn’t care if he buys his gun with in the law or not, the one thing that is going to stop the bad guy the fastest, safest way possible, is a TRAINED, ARMED, WARRIORS willing to visit the Wrath of God upon the evil doer…

Why is it no one ever complains when a fire crew has to set a back blaze to help limit the damage caused by a forest fire? Or when a surgeon says he needs to cut you from throat to belly button, break every rib in your body and stop your heart… to save your life?
But when a Warrior says he needs to use guns in combonation with trained violence to save lives, people bawlks.

I am a Sheepdog, a Warrior. The sheep fear the Sheepdog because he sniffs the wind, patrols the peremeter, barks at shadows, is constantly on the lookout and has the same sharp teeth that the Wolf has. But the Sheepdog has one major difference from the Wolf: Love. Love of the sheep, love of The Shepherd.
Most Sheep would prefer if all the Sheepdogs painted themselves white, TRADED IN THEIR TEETH and said ‘baaaa’.
Feel free to never own a gun in your life. But like surgury and firefighting. leave the preparation for In-Progress violence to the Proffessionals.
I feel for your concern over this, but Pandora’s box is open. Guns are out there. You are never going to be able to eliminate all guns. The bad guys will not comply with any law…

Look at England and Australia. Eliminate Guns and the gun violence goes up. So would Law Makers be MORALLY responsible for that? The statistics are there. Ignoring them is like ignoring any other information leading to a major decision.
I truely feel for your concern. But like so many other people’s concerns, it’s merely misplaced.
Again, to address your O.P. Warriors do not see that verse as something adverse, per se, but factual. It is a deffinate possibility if I have a proffession where combat is inherrantly a part of it, I may get killed in combat. The ‘civi’ recoils… the Warrior runs towards the sound of guns.
