I want to know if there’s any articles about what the Catholic Church’s stance is on the Bible Codes?

God bless

Theres alot of intelligent people that say there is a coode hidden in the bible. Alot of Orthodox Jews believe so. Does anyone know of the Church’s stance on this ??

The church strongly denies the existence of a Bible code. To recognize one would smack of Gnosticism, which was the very first heresy ever condemned by Christianity.

Do you have a link that supports your claim that the church is strogly against the Bible code? I dont consider it gnostic because there may be something hidden in the bible we cant see on the surface. Gnostics believed in secret knowledge, but they weren’t talking about a Bible code.

the stance of the Church is that the bible contains the revealed word of God, and that the good news of the gospel is freely available to everyone who picks up the bible and reads it. Yes, there are passages that require interpretation, and Jesus gave that task to the Church he founded, he did not embed it in some weird code, that the Church new nothing about for 1900 years until some idiots trying to sell a book “discovered” it.

Please provide the source for Orthodox Jews who believe this tripe. Since the are some of the world’s most devout adherents of the scripture, I sincerely doubt this.

You have it the wrong way round. You are asserting there is a Bible Code. You have to provide your source of evidence for discussion. It is not up to us to refute a baseless assertion.

Hi!

I understand your concern… there are hundreds if not thousands of myths out there… some are openly hostile to the Catholic Church… others… well… they are just half-baked creations…

Most of the anti-Catholic myths center on some sort of Church control over God’s revelations… do you see the flaw? In order for the Church to keep Yahweh God’s revelations under wraps it would mean that she, not God, is all powerful.

…intellenge, my friend, can be overrated; we have witnessed this through religion, politics, love, war, peace, wealth, poverty… there’s an old adage that states that there will always be someone smarter and dumber than you… so intellence in itself is a no-brainer… but people who promote themselves as “intelligent” are demonstrative of the inherent flaw in intelligence: as Justice (US), it can be blinded.

…in just a few decades… otherwise intelligent people have murdered more than 40 million children in their mothers’ wombs–conversely, during that same period, several multi-billion industries have arisen to benefit from the carnage provided by those abortions… closely related and within the same time frame, otherwise intelligent people have allowed the hatred racist views of one person threaten the future of whole societies under the guise of “planned parenthood.” It is my personal view, that otherwise intelligent people have adopted terror and mass murder as a means to demand peace; finally, just look at the results of “intelligent” social reconstruction in the US: rampant immorality spoused with rampant violence as decades of “freedom” and “liberty” experiments have all but extinguished morality in our society…

The history of “Bible Codes” can be traced as far back as medieval Europe. The only “new” thing about it, is an increase in both the number of skips, and the length of the skips that are tested.

Offhand, my guess would be Chabbad Lubavitch. This is a trivial modification of some of the meditative practices that it publicized/popularized several centuries ago.

The reason the church never talked about the bible Code is because it could only be discovered through computers. Those who hold to there being a Bible code say modern computers are the key that have unlocked these hidden codes.

So far no one has really giving me anything, there’s nothing at all the Church has wrote about this? I find it hard to believe there must be something yet I cant find anything

Could it be there is nothing to give you?

I believe that the claim that the bible contains a secret code is so preposterous and self-refuting that the Church does not need say anything about it.

I understand your view david, but couldnt there be a comment from the Pope about this somewhere.

If anyone is interested in the Bible Codes type in at youtube History channels bible code.

It may surprise many to learn that the Pope’s do not make statements on every crack-pot theory that comes down the pike. Shoot, they don’t always comment on every rational theory out there. If they did, it would be a full time job.

Believe me, the Pope has given this baloney all the thought he deserves – which is probably none. What is important to conspiracy theorists is not necessarily important to the Pope – or most other rational thinkers. Resign yourself to the fact that there is no substance to any of that hooey and move on to something more substantial like telling the future from animal entrails or something/ 😉

The immediate predecessors of the SDA used the book of Daniel to determine the end of the world, and failed miserably. Twice. There were mathematical equations thrown all about. In this instance, and all others, mathematics was used to prove that Christ was either wrong, or a liar. (Matthew 24:36, Mark 13:32) Anti-scripture and anti-Christ.

Codes are simply a man-made deconstruction of scripture. Thus, any code or assertion of a code has its origin in the influence of the evil one. I can think of no other source, since:
  1. The Holy Spirit unites.
  2. The demon divides.
Christ’s peace.

Can do ELS (Equidistant Letter Spacing) on Shakespeare and get cryptic messages.

There is no Bible Code so there is nothing to take a stance on.
Right you are. Any more “reading into” scripture is simply demon-lead private interpretation. God speaks to the lowly, and has provided scripture and authority to teach and preach to all. The extremely educated amongst us tend to disbelieve in Him. Witness the latest spate of books by the intelligentsia who all deny God.

Im not saying I believe in the Bible code , but I wanted to see what our Catholic Church had to say about it. Yet I can’t find anything written by anyone regarding it. Thats all I was asking… Sorry if I offended anyone .

No offense taken! The Catholic Church defines things when they are under assault by heretics. This explains the wide time frame of various doctrines. They were in response to heresies of the age in which they occurred.

I believe that any development or use of a “code” would fall under the CCC sections 2138-2140, prohibitions against using any form of divination or occult practices. This section deals with the second commandment, by the way.

The future remains the property of God alone. Not even Christ knows the hour of his return. The Lord speaks to us plainly and simply, according to our limitations. This is reflected in scripture.

It is the evil one who leads astray by introducing the possibility of knowing the future. Those who seek it “shall be like gods, knowing good and evil” This is exactly the ploy he used in the garden in Genesis.

Know that the evil one, his demons, and all Angels are far superior to us in intellect. Thus, the evil one is “most subtle”. The phrase “the devil is in the details” certainly applies here.

If there is a sudden wave of popularity in biblical code decipherers and its attendant movement, the Catholic Church may have to declare against it. As it is, the CCC covers it quite well.

Christ’s peace.

…but isn’t it more acvurate to say that you have not been given the reply you are seeking?

Anyone (including the clergy) can make any claim at any time; but only the Vatican is authorized to speak for the Church.

The Vatican does not address every single issue that arises in society.

It is my understanding that Numeralogy or Bible Code is an issue that the Church has not addressed since it is a non-issue.
