From my understanding… they do not believe in the same God as Christians.

They do not believe in the God of Abraham. Its not the same kind of thinking as disagreements among different Christian faiths or even Jews.

So in reading quotes from the koran… keep this in mind.

Scott Hahn was asked to have a public discussion with a Muslim sheikh on a college campus.

He met with the sheikh prior to the conference in a coffee shop.

Scott made reference to God as “Father” and the sheikh pounded his fist on the table and said that Scott was “blaspheming the name of God”.

Apparently, Allah is Master in the Koran. Humanity is in a slave relationship. Allah is not Father.

When His disciples asked Jesus how to pray - Jesus responded:

Mt 6:7-15

“Our Father, Who art in Heaven, Hallowed by Thy Name.”

“They do not believe in the God of Abraham. Its not the same kind of thinking as disagreements among different Christian faiths or even Jews.”

When Pope Benedict went to Jordon, a Sheik from the royal family gave a welcoming address. In it he said that Muslims and Christians are connected through Abraham.

What he didn’t mention - Muslims believe that Abraham was sacrificing Ishmael and not Isaac.

😊

What does the catechism of the Catholic church teach? Isn’t the CC authoritive on how Catholics are to view Islam?

I am not sure what it says.

I was just concerned that Big D, describing himself as ‘doubting’ would read both the Bible and the koran and think it was the same God.

I wasnt trying to start a problem… just concerned a 'doubting ’ person would be more confused.

They are the same God spoken of in the Bible and the Qur’an. Different understandings of the same God…but the same God none the less.

The “same God” is an overstatement in that our two religions vary in perspective and in our relationship with God. The “same God” if understood in a vague way. Not considering that Catholics profess God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

CCC 841:

“The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day”.

The Catechism attempts to find connection between Catholic and Muslim understanding of God.

does anyone know, any quotes?
Allah is He, than Whom there is no other god;- the Sovereign, the Holy One, the Source of Peace (and Perfection), the Guardian of Faith, the Preserver of Safety, the Exalted in Might, the Irresistible, the Supreme: Glory to Allah! (High is He) above the partners they attribute to Him.Al-Qur’an 059.023

Whatever is in the heavens and on earth, doth declare the Praises and Glory of Allah,- the Sovereign, the Holy One, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.Al-Qur’an 062.001

Surah 16, Ayat 120-123:
Lo! Abraham was a nation obedient to Allah, by nature upright, and he was not of the idolaters;
Thankful for His bounties; He chose him and He guided him unto a straight path.
And We gave him good in the world, and in the Hereafter he is among the righteous.
And afterward We inspired thee (Muhammad, saying): Follow the religion of Abraham, as one by nature upright. He was not of the idolaters.

The Qur’an commands humankind to follow the religion of Prophet Abraham (pbuh).

I think** hamba2han** will like this thread ;)

Although the Quran is full of quotes about the holiness of Allah, it has nothing about the holiness of Jesus!!!

He is the only sinless Person on this earth and yet not a single quote appreciating Him in Quran 😦

How can that be when Christian God sent His son to die on the Cross, where as Muslim Allah denies the very thing?

There are lots of passages appreciating Jesus, but Muslims regard him as a Prophet and reject claims that he was God. Jews do not even accept him as a Prophet.

Muslims and Christians believe in the same God, regardless of differences we have about His nature. It’s a bit silly to say these differences mean we worship “different” gods when Christianity has all these differences with Judaism as well. Out of Islam, Christianity and Judaism it’s Christianity which is the odd one of the bunch and Islam and Judaism which have the most in common.

I can answer it as a Friend…but you’ll need to turn to your teaching magisterium and the catechism of you faith tradition to find you answers. It seems to me your church holds a different view concerning the topic than do you.🤷

Ok dear, I am all ears.

How can this be?
Jesus Christ is the center of Christianity. Without Him there wouldn’t be any Christians. Without His death on the cross and resurrection as atonement for our sins our faith would be worthless.
The case of Christ being either God or a prophet of Allah is not just a minor detail. This is a clear distinction between Allah and God.

  1. What does “uimpeenth” mean? I searched in in Google and all that I found was this thread.
  2. LG is not an authority to me. Just because Paul VI regarded Islam in that way does not mean that I have to.

Following this logic Jews also worship a different god, since they reject all of this as well. But Jesus was a Jew, so do Christians worship a different God than Jesus did? Arguing that Muslims worship a different god to Christians because we don’t accept your beliefs about Jesus Christ creates theological mayhem.

*Allah *is just the Arabic word for God, it’s doesn’t mean the “Muslim God” Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews use the word too.

Jesus fulfilled the Law. Jesus believed in the same God and prayed to the same God Jews believe in and pray to. The God of the Bible however cannot be Allah.

God cannot be tempted by evil and neither tempts anyone with evil:
James 1:13
Psalm 5:4-5
Habakkuk 1:13

Allah is the author of evil:
Sura 3:54
And they (the disbelievers) schemed, and Allah schemed (against them): and Allah is the best of schemers.
Sura 4:142
Verily, the hypocrites seek to deceive Allâh, but it is He Who deceives them.] And when they stand up for As-Salât (the prayer), they stand with laziness and to be seen of men, and they do not remember Allâh but little.

Allah is a schemer and deceiver. He is not God.
In Sura 8:43 he deceives Muhammad into believing that the opposing fighting forces are actually less than they are, so that Muhammad and his men would fight.
In Sura 34:13-14 he tricks Jinns into continuing to work at Solomons temple by not telling them that Solomon was about to die. Had they known that they would have stopped.
In Sura 4:157 he made Christians and Jews believe that Jesus was crucified, though He wasn’t. (Which does not match up with the Bible.)

Allah misleads whom he wills… He is certainly not the God of Moses.

But Allah is not omniscient either. I like the story best that makes Alexander the Great (Dhul-Qarnain) a Muslim and let’s him find the place where the sun is setting… in a spring of black muddy water. That is in Sura 18:83-98.
He also claims that the Jews said that they slew the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, Allah’s messenger. The problem here is that the Jews did not believe that Jesus was their long awaited Messiah (and therefore would have never claimed that), but if they had, they would have prevented His crucifixion. They believed He was a false Messiah. See Luke 23:2.

Do you want me to continue?

PS: I found a Qur’an Explorer online, that’s why I have put in links now… it’s easier than typing it off too… 🙂

does anyone know, any quotes?
It is He Who has created hearing, sight and hearts for you. What little thanks you show!
It is He Who dispersed you about the Earth and you will be gathered to Him. It is He Who gives life and causes to die and His is the alternation of the night and day. So will you not use your intellect?
However, they say the same as previous peoples said. They say, "When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? “We and our forefathers were promised this before. This is nothing but the myths of previous peoples!”
Say (to them) : “To whom does the Earth belong, and everyone in it, if you have any knowledge?” They will say: “To Allah.” Say: “So will you not pay heed?”
Say(to them): “Who is the Lord of the Seven Heavens and the Lord of the Mighty Throne?” They will say: “Allah.” Say: “So will you not guard against evil?”
Say(to them) : “In whose hand is the dominion over everything, He Who gives protection and from Whom no protection can be given, if you have any knowledge?” They will say: “Alah’s.” Say: “So how have you been bewitched?” (Surat Al-Muminun 23:78-90)

21-19 :24 And whoever is in the heavens and the earth is His; and those who are with Him are not proud to serve Him, nor do they grow weary.
They glorify (Him) by night and day; they are never languid.
Or have they taken gods from the earth who raise (the dead).
If there had been in them any gods except Allah, they would both have certainly been in a state of disorder; therefore glory be to Allah, the Lord of the dominion, above what they attribute (to Him).
He cannot be questioned concerning what He does and they shall be questioned.

30-40 Allah is He Who created you, then gave you sustenance, then He causes you to die, then brings you to life. Is there any of your associate-gods who does aught of it? Glory be to Him, and exalted be He above what they associate (with Him).

36-36 Glory be to Him Who created pairs of all things, of what the earth grows, and of their kind and of what they do not know.

59-22:25 He is Allah besides Whom there is no god; the Knower of the unseen and the seen; He is the Beneficent, the Merciful .
He is Allah, besides Whom there is no god; the King, the Holy, the Giver of peace, the Granter of security, Guardian over all, the Mighty, the Supreme, the Possessor of every greatness Glory be to Allah from what they set up (with Him).
He is Allah the Creator, the Maker, the Fashioner; His are the most excellent names; whatever is in the heavens and the earth declares His glory; and He is the Mighty, the Wise.

13-12:17 He it is Who shows you the lightning causing fear and hope and (Who) brings up the heavy cloud.
And the thunder declares His glory with His praise, and the angels too for awe of Him; and He sends the thunderbolts and smites with them whom He pleases, yet they dispute concerning Allah, and He is mighty in prowess.
To Him is due the true prayer; and those whom they pray to besides Allah give them no answer, but (they are) like one who stretches forth his two hands towards water that it may reach his mouth, but it will not reach it; and the prayer of the unbelievers is only in error.
And whoever is in the heavens and the earth makes obeisance to Allah only, willingly and unwillingly, and their shadows too at morn and eve.
Say: Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?-- Say: Allah. Say: Do you take then besides Him guardians who do not control any profit or harm for themselves? Say: Are the blind and the seeing alike? Or can the darkness and the light be equal? Or have they set up with Allah associates who have created creation like His, so that what is created became confused to them? Say: Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Supreme.
He sends down water from the cloud, then watercourses flow (with water) according to their measure, and the torrent bears along the swelling foam, and from what they melt in the fire for the sake of making ornaments or apparatus arises a scum like it; thus does Allah compare truth and falsehood; then as for the scum, it passes away as a worthless thing; and as for that which profits the people, it tarries in the earth; thus does Allah set forth parables.

17-43 Glory be to Him and exalted be He in high exaltation above what they say.
The seven heavens declare His glory and the earth (too), and those who are in them; and there is not a single thing but glorifies Him with His praise, but you do not understand their glorification; surely He is Forbearing, Forgiving.
