I asked a poster who used this phrase to explain what it meant. I did not get an answer, so I am ask all of you.

What does this phrase mean?

Peace

I can not tell you exactly, but I can only tell you what the term sounds like. The term sounds like a nice expression for someone who is opposition of Church teaching.God Bless and if I am wrong I stand corrected:)

Then why did you us it? And why do I feel you are not giving me a straight answer? I asked a clear question. What’s the deal?
the deal is clear in this thread. Within 4 minutes of your post another person (known for calling people a Communist for supporting social justice actions of bishops) makes a negative comment.

4 minutes after that another attack. Not a learned posting going into detail and giving references but just a slam.

So, my initial judgement that your inquiry was not something I should respond to until I had the time to make a full, thoughtful and detailed response proved to me to be the wise course.

If your really interested in a meaningful response, come over to my house and have tea or do a little prepatory work with some of the other posters here to hose them down.

The term ‘Progressive’ is a politically correct euphemism used by members of the political left and their liberal allies to indicate a high tolerance of materialism, Marxism, communism, and non-teleological thought.

A Baptist Church in Harvard Square has: “A Progressive Church” written on its front sign, so predictably the church holds headquarters in its basement for Gay Marriages, Homosexual Ministers, and various causes run by the political left.

Also, tonight as I walked past a ‘Progressive’ Protestant church on Arlington street in downtown Boston, they were chiming “We Shall Overcome One Day” on their church bells.

So the tem ‘Progressive’ is a euphemism for left-wing activism the way the word ‘Gay’ is a euphemism for homosexual.

I would suggest it is one who has progressed to the door, has one foot outside, but won’t yet claim the title of Protestant.

one minute after my post and another derogatory, non-substantive post, closely followed by two more.

Well, dennis? Were you really hoping for a serious and thoughtful exchange?

But I am not making these statements. I truly want to know what a progressive Catholic is. How is a progressive Catholic different from a non-progressive one? If those derogatory statements are false then set those posting them straight.

I for one will not resort to name calling or personal attacks. I just want some clarity.

The posts are simply slams. They don’t contain any thoughtful statements one could respond to (other than maybe “and so’s your mother”)

You might not, but others will. When would you like to have tea?

You know, there are plenty of us out here who have not responded to this post with derogatory comments or negative reactions… I think those of you who consider yourselves “progressive Catholics” should rise above these people and honestly give a proper response as opposed to just pouting about the name-calling… 😦

I, for one, would also really like to know just what makes a “progressive Catholic” progressive – why are you any different from just a “Catholic?” (and don’t give me any of that “well, conservative Catholics call themselves conservative Catholics and not just Catholics”… that’s just a delay tactic. They should have an answer to the same question!)

So - what is the “mission statement” (so to speak) of a self-identified “progressive Catholic?” Why are you not just “Catholic?”

Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

Well, since you live in Penn. and I in WI, I don’t know if I will be able to come over for tea any time soon. Why not give the answer you mentioned? I know some chose to use personal attacks on this forum and that’s not fair, but some are honestly seeking to understand.

To those resorting to personal attacks–let’s be a little more charitable. We are dealing with arguments and reason on this thread, not personal attacks.

Peace

I am posting without reading the other replies because I did not want to be influenced. However, without sounding too flip, a progressive Catholic is usually a Protestant. They take matters into their own hands and interpret the Bible and the church as they see fit.

You know Dennis, you started to tempt me, then I noticed with your 10:04 post, Fitz’s post less than sixty seconds later.

Shall we just say a progressive Catholic is one that endures attacks and name calling before she can even get a word out, and leave it at that?

You have a lovely art museum in Milwaukee.

The Pabst Mansion is nice, too. I understand it used to be the Chancery.

What did I say in my 10:04 posts that discouraged you to reply?

Katherine2:  Thou doth “protest” too much, dear lady. You like Haydn Masses and send me to a so - called “progessive” Catholic site and Lo! What do I find?! A Chruch which looks remarkably like my own cathedral parish. Does “progessive” mean "a whole bunch of educated Catholics who think and really appreciate the history/cutlure/traditions of our Church and want to keep them and those who are interested in social justice, etc. in the modern world? That’s us! But “yappers” are only allowed after Mass is over:bounce: !

What an entirely arrogant and self-serving posting. While I don’t believe political labels like “conservative” or “liberal” (AKA “progressive”) belong in the Church, I will note that you seem ignorantly dismissive of anyone who beliefs counter your own.

Also, I don’t think anyone here has a problem with social justice, except when it begins to take the place of faith/worship or mutate into something as sordid as liberation theology.
