If Satan repented would salvation history be different?
What if he reads the Book of Revelation and now knows and comes up with a different means?

The word “if” is the biggest, that is, most important word in the English language. What if? What if Satan had not rebelled against G-d in the first place? What if Satan were not an angel to begin with? What if Satan was the servant of G-d instead of His adversary? What if Satan was as powerful as G-d? And on and on. The point is, according to Christian theology, Satan is never going to repent; he is always going to be G-d’s enemy until the end of time. Is the salvation history of Christianity based mainly on this belief? I don’t know for sure, but it is certainly a very important part of the religion.

As you know from your catechism (right?) he cannot and the demons cannot. I much prefer to keep it simple and focus on the truth which God has revealed. Much more reassuring. Hypotheticals introduce complication into reality.

It’s just a hypothetical. Satan can’t repent. The rejection of God is definitive and irrevocable. The Son took on flesh and atoned for humans. There is no such Atonement for angels, unlike humans who have a chance in their earthly life to repent. Angels know all the consequences of their disobedience unlike humans whose intellect is limited and darkened. The catechism and the Bible both teach Satan can’t repent.

Po18guy posted while I was typing. I agree. I’m not big on hypotheticals either.

Since the Catechism and the Bible are the inspired words of God, I’ll take God’s words on the issue to be true.

Actually it’s the other way around, the Bible and the Cathecism doesn’t make up revelation; but it receives, describes and systematise what God reveals.

As we know, Satan is also the angel or a creature that is higer level than us. So the sin they did is difficult to sympathize. On the contrary, people can be fault lots of times and forgave time by time. Even if with stan’s arrogance, they certainly don’t repent
Revelation

Well yeah… we are bound to the Word of God which comes to us through Scripture, Tradition and the teaching Authority of the Catholic Church.

Also if satan said he repents he’s lying…
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44

Satan was an archangel which was an angel and spiritual so his decision was definite and irrevocable. Once their decision was made, there is no return.
But we human have bodies so we still have chance to repent and choose, the choice made at the moment our souls departing from body (at our death) is definite and irrevocable too. That is why God allows some people more time on earth before taking their souls. God sometimes wait long for some to get baptised and take their souls.

I thought that when I read it but didnt say anything.
But yah it definitely isn’t “inspired’”, otherwise it wouldn’t be changed all the time.

Dogma.

Lateran Council IV 1215
Ecumenical XII (against the Albigensians, Joachim, Waldensians etc.
The Trinity, Sacraments, Canonical Mission, etc.
Chap. 1. The Catholic Faith
(Definition directed against the Albigensians and other heretics]
But He descended in soul, and He arose in the flesh, and He ascended equally in both, to come at the end of time, to judge the living and the dead, and to render to each according to his works, to the wicked as well as to the elect, all of whom will rise with their bodies which they now bear, that they may receive according to their works, whether these works have been good or evil, the latter everlasting punishment with the devil, and the former everlasting glory with Christ.

It looks like no one has answered the OP’s questions. They would rather pose their own question, “Can Satan repent?” and variations on that theme. I’ll answer:
thread title:

What happens if Satan repents?
He would be saved and would go to heaven, to be in the glorious presence of God, together with all the good angels.
If Satan repented would salvation history be different?
If man nevertheless chose to sin, that is, if the human race is fallen, then no. Man would still be subject to death, and God would have sent his only Son to redeem us.

The angels are created beings, they are persons, but they are not humans. They do not have free will as you or I have, reject and accept God many times each day.

They were created and were given one opportunity to choose. Some of them rejected God. We know them as “fallen angels”, “demons”, “devils”, etc. They made their choice and for them there is no repentance.

Nope! It’s just not going to happen. He just wants us, with his divided hell, to be there in misery, and not to be happy in heaven with our Father. He wants anyone to feel sorry for him while he laughs with glee. He is a prowling lion looking for someone to devour.
