Jesus said “I am THE way, THE truth, and THE life–no one comes to the Father except by me.”

The statement is TRUE.

Jesus said " The road to heaven is rocky and FEW there are that find it."

The statement is TRUE.

The Catholic Church teaches that there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church.

The statement is TRUE.

The Catholic Church teaches that all those who die in a state of grace make it to Heaven and all those who die in a state of mortal sin enter the fires of Hell.

That statement is also TRUE.

There may be disagreement about the interpretation of these statements and disagreement as to how Jesus will implement these statements when He ultimately perfectly and justly and mercifully judges but the statements are TRUE

and it doesn’t matter who agrees with them or not and it doesn’t matter who likes them or not.
This is very legalistic. There are exceptions to almost everything on this list. Christ’s Mercy outweighs His judgement otherwise He would never have died for us.

“Road is rocky and few make it” Christ often used hyperbole in his teachings. Few could still be a 1/6th of the world… which is at a glance small as 5/6th are going to Hell. But currently that is 1 billion people. Which is a lot.

The CC does say that people who seek God, but through no fault of their own don’t know the Gospel can still go to Heaven.

Our God is Merciful. and I am and will be eternally grateful for that. the scriptures regularly assures us of our Salvation, due to His Grace. That is why focusing on His grace is so important – it is what gets us to Heaven: His grace for us is Jesus’ sacrifice.

Actually, I still have not yet decided what to tell these children. While I appreciate all the commentary in this forum (I’m learning so much!), I think I need to talk to my priest. Despite all that’s been said, I still find it difficult to believe that Heaven is only for Catholics and other Christians. Guess I won’t really know until I meet the Creator Himself someday (I hope and pray!).

The Church does teach that people can get into heaven outside of the Church. Those who pursue God with all their heart and live according to the law written on their hearts, but by no fault of their own do not know the Gospel, the Church teaches that God can extend His mercy to that person.

But definitely talk to a priest. You have some major questions that need to be answered by some with authority.

priest are humans they dont know any more about where we go after we die than you… you should teach these children to think for themselves… It is horrible and quite vile to scare these poor innocent kids into thinking their jewish or non christian friends are going to hell…

False.

The scriptural writings in the New Testament were written within a couple decades of Christ’s death.
do you believe everything you read? well where is he? how come he never came back in thousands of years? , a little odd, no? why arent we graced with his presence ?

Its historical fact. They were written very early after the death of Christ. It is not whether or not they were written at the time that is in modern dispute, but whether or not the contents of the writings are true.

I believe the writings are true yes. When 70 scholars all interpret the writings into Greek exactly the same with no argument (hence the Septuagint), I believe that the writings are inspired.

He’s in Heaven at the right hand of God, ever living to intercede on our behalf.

Because Christ said He was coming back. He didn’t say when.

No it is not odd. He will return though.

I will faithfully wait for His return and look forward to His coming, even if it is not in my time.

The Church does not say that people who are not Catholic cannot go to heaven. You are making an assumption that is not true.

Would you like to know what the Church does say about those in another religion who do not know the gospel?

I didnt say they werent written, I said I do not believe they to be true…People were very itellectually immature during that time…I believe whomever wrote it believed it to be true…I think we’re smarter now and a bit more evolved…

I was repeating what many on this board said… the poster also replied she was sad she would have to tell them that…😦

If people in another religion know the gospel but refuse to accept it, then yes. They are then refusing Christ’s sacrifice for them and do go to hell.

However, the Church does not presume to know the hearts of men; only God does. Therefore the Church has defined something known as “invincible ignorance”: newadvent.org/cathen/07648a.htm

The Church cannot guarantee their salvation, because the CC does not know if they are Invincibly Ignorant.

But the Church says God knows if they are and God can grant them salvation if this state exists in the person.

Many misconceptions about the Church are that people think everything is black and white. There is grey area, but beyond defining these grey areas, the Church does not speak officially on that which it cannot know. Only God knows these grey areas.

how in the world would you think the church can guarantee anything? So just say it, I was right, you go to hell if you refuse to believe… thats a horrible thing you were taught to believe…such contradictions… god is all forgiving yet vengeful and jealous and will send you to burn. your smarter than to believe that, no?.

Phew! man you are uberly negative.

What’s your religious background if you don’t mind me asking? Education? Just trying to get a grasp of your filter that you use to listen to the world.

I will not “admit it”.

I told you that plainly that God allows those to enter heaven with invincible ignorance.

Because scripture tells us that God gave “the keys to the kingdom” symbolizing authority, to the Church (Peter the first pope and passed down until present day). Jesus also told His disciples that they have the power to bind and lose things in heaven and on earth. aka spiritually and our physical world.

hence the churches authority.

God is all forgiving. IF we accept His plan for our forgiveness: Jesus

Its verry funny and odd that you think all non christians burn in hell, and im the negative one(.yes I get it, only if there ignorant). But what if they deeply believe in something else. I was born and raised Catholic, and went to Catholic schools…Even as child I know something was very wrong with what I was learning…I was taught not to question anything, to blindly believe… ‘Faith’ they call it is just a way to stop the questions…My God would never send someone to hell for questioning something unproven… Hes not jealous or vengeful at all, he doesnt care what you believe in as long as you are a good person…

Religions are all alike – founded on fables and mythologies.”
“I do not find in orthodox Christianity one redeeming feature.”
“Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man.”
“The Christian god can easily be pictured as virtually the same god as the many ancient gods of past civilisations. The Christian god is a three-headed monster; cruel, vengeful and capricious. If one wishes to know more of this raging three-headed beast-like god, one only needs to look at the caliber of people who say they serve him. They are always of two classes: fools and hypocrites.”
-Thomas Jefferson, U.S. President, author, scientist, architect, educator, and diplomat.

Christ’s mercy does not outweigh His judgement (Justice). They are equal and applied at different times. Christ is all merciful prior to our death. Christ is our Judge at judgement. Mercy is granted on this side of the divide. Justice then begins and is perfectly executed. A just judge abides by the laws he swears an oath to. A just judge cannot set someone free when they are confirmed in their sins. This would make for a case of injustice, which God is not.

We reap what we sow and our particular judgement will be perfectly executed by Christ after all His efforts of mercy to persuade us have been either successful or not.

LORD, have mercy!
