The wife of the Scientology leader:
Same reason people get hooked on meth. In the beginning, it felt good. How do they get “sucked” in to the vortex?
I have read that when you get up to the highest level of Scientology (which few people achieve) you learn that L. Ron Hubbard is “God.”Can I ask why you consider it evil?
Money laundering front. There’s a huge store-front scientology “church” in my city, and no one is ever seen going in or out. Very strange.
Have you not heard operation Snow White? Can I ask why you consider it evil?
What question? Not sure if you’re confusing me with another user, but I didn’t join this thread to find out about Scientology. I know them well enough based on my own interaction with them. When I saw the OP’s post, I was just curious as to why he is so convinced that they are evil, so I asked. Why are you still asking this question
No!Didn’t you ask this on the “old” forum"?
I’ve no idea what you’re talking about. What question am I still asking??Why are you still asking this question when the same resources were suggested before?
See above (I was answering while you were editing).I’ve no idea what you’re talking about. What question am I still asking??
In my opinion, I don’t think either attract new people to Scientology. Elizabeth Moss is probably the most famous Scientologist right now and people who discover that she is a one either find themselves conflicted for admiring her or deciding immediately that they are no longer a fan.Tom Cruise. John Travolta
why are you asking for indepth info on Scientology on a Catholic site?
It seems that the Church of Scientology is the most criticized religion in the world. Our Lord Jesus said love your neighbor and love your enemy. I know that some of our neighbors are Scientologists…these are nice people. Should a Catholic come to the defense of the Church of Scientology and if so why? Would it be because its the nice thing to do, the Christian thing to do or a mixture of both Christian and non Christian principals to defend the Church of Scientology?
Precisely. Because such groups do exist, even inside the RCC. Which was my original point. I agree that Scientology isn’t right. I’m just not too fond of the view that “they (Scientology in this case) are so manipulative and deceptive but we (the RCC) are free of such evils”. We’re not. Not completely anyway. Yes, the RCC is to be preferred over Scientology, of course, for many good reasons. But no, we cannot claim to be entirely free, either now or historically, of the evils that Scientology suffers from or has suffered from.At the same time I avoid subgroups within the church that appear to me to be manipulative.
@goodcatholic How very true. And good point about getting off this forum too. A forum like this has to be phase that one grows out of. But at the risk of causing offense, I’ve been wondering lately if perhaps that extends to all of organized religion as well…And once you start agreeing to carry the cross, all the glamour starts to fade.It is then you need real grace to grow into spiritual maturity. ( saying to self, “but Ron you need to get off this forum in order to grow up”. )
True too!If anything, it is very impersonal to the point where it’s the opposite extreme.
That, but there are also some larger movements inside the RCC that I have found to be manipulative. Some have a lot of power, in fact. For me it’s been a reason to limit my praxis to plain-vanilla, parish-based Catholicism. It’s all these sub groups started by one priest or a couple of lay leaders in order to have a faith-sharing movement or for people in the group to supposedly encourage another along.
Me neither.I am not sure why the Church is so tolerant of some of the behaviors.
I need to use this phrase for almost every post I make on CAF.But at the risk of causing offense,
