What if I converted to Islam?

]Oh my friend how wrong you are - you need to read some well balanced books on the Crusades, the Inquisitions, witch trials etc - you have obviously bought into the lies that the enemies of the Church have put out. Do yourself a favour and go do some serious reading. There is one book you would enjoy - How the Catholic Church built Western Civilization by Dr Thomas Woods. It is full of very interesting facts about the Church. He is a convert to the Catholic Church and is an excellent teacher. He made a series for EWTN. You would really enjoy his book.

🙂
So the crusaders were completely right in what they did and were not unnecessarily violent?

Okay… how is violence and killing excusable if you are Catholic, but not if you are Muslim. Taking a person’s life is still a sin, regardless of the religion you practice, and last time I checked… people WERE killed in the inquisition, but I do not hold it against the Church, just the people in the Church who did it… I think the same should be applied to Islam too… just to be fair. For us Christians to say that Muslims are violent is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

God Bless:thumbsup:

I am in a religious dilema. (not seriously, just curious).

Would I be rejecting Christ and rejecting his gift of salvation by doing this?

But if I reject Islam I would also be rejecting entery into Paradise in that religion, also. 🤷

How do you know which religion is true? I know for sure that God is definately in monotheism (Islam, Catholicism and Judaism) but how do I know which of the three is worshipping and viewing God in the most accurate way?

PS: How can we even compare the two religious books if they contradict each other?

I certaintly DO NOT believe that everyone worships the same God (besides monotheism) no matter what religion you’re in. I also believe that it is dangerous to think this way. You can’t make up your own philosophy regarding religion, because then you could end up like people like Dr Leary, or the leader of the scientology “church”.

What are your thoughts?

PS: Just so you know, I’m NOT really thinking of leaving Catholicism…I am just curious about this…
I believe that your actions are the first thing you should worry about. In my opinion, the very least God expects of us all is to do the right thing at all times, and our judgement is fundamentally based on our actions. Your personal beliefs are none of my business (nor that of anyone else in the thread, for that matter) so I would advise that you pray on it and discuss them with your loved ones and your priest, instead of making yourself a thread discussion.

*There were sound reasons for the crusades yet there were excesses also. Go and investigate and you will see for yourself. then come back to me and let me know.

*What you say is right but you really need to investigate and learn the truths of the Inquisition and the Crusades. *

I do not agree with you. I have learnt a lot by posting on CAF and made some wonderful friends. It is good to discourse with others and get insight into other opinions and thought. This is the purpose of CAF.

Catholicism is the fulfillment of Judaism. Islam is an offshoot from Judaism and Catholicism. God has revealed Himself through His Son Jesus Christ. Muhammad is not a prophet of God. His message leads people away from Christ and in so doing, away from salvation.

Converting to Islam and dying unrepentant would mean going to Hell. Any Catholic who walks away from the Church and converts to a religion which denies Christ is God and denies that the Catholic Church is the true Church and rejects Christianity has committed apostasy which is not only a sin of grave matter but such person is automatically excommunicated.

With all due respect… we Christians have also had violent tendencies in the past too. Think Inquisitions, Crusades, witch trials, etc., we must not judge a religion as a whole based on the actions of a few. Just a thought.🙂
not true at all. We did not wipe out innocent citizen. I would recommend two very good books by Diane Moczar, “Seven Lies About Catholic History” and “Islam at the Gates”. Both books discuss in great detail the above objections you seems to raise. Islam has a violent history that exceeds any other faith and you need to educated yourself on Its history, how is was and is spread and what happen to the non Muslims when they are taken over. The sacking of Constantinople is nothing when compared to what happen when the Ottoman emperor finally took over Constantinople in the 1400’s. The few bad things that were done in either the crusades or the inquisitions are actually minor when you look at the very violent history of Islam. It is not about judging a few by a few but pointing out what is an intrinsic part of that religion.

If you convert to Islam you are telling Christ, “No thanks, I can do it on my own through adherence to the Five Pillars of Islam.” You are also telling Him that you do not believe that He is truly God and that He died on a Cross, but rather that there was a last second switcheroo with Judas Iscariot.

Well thats the truth as you see it. There are literally over a billion people that disagree with that.
well are they truly free to choose? In Muslim countries, it is a capital crime to leave Islam.
Even is a so called free country like ours, those who choose to leave Islam do fear for their lives. I get tired of hearing that a billion people believe in Islam so that must make it ok. Are these billion free to choose this faith? Since the Koran is to only be read in Arabic and that is the way it is taught in Muslim countries, do those Muslims actually read or understand it in Arabic? The middle east is made up of many different languages and schools teach Islam by having children just repeating the Koran in Arabic. There is not freedom of religion in Muslim countries no matter how modern they try to make themselves seem.

*I have the book about the “Seven Lies” - just have not got around to reading it - will get the other. We need to educate ourselves because there are so many lies spread about Catholicism and if we don’t know the truth we end up believing the lies just like lots of people.

I am so happy to have CAF and all the posters who share their views and knowledge.

Much as I enjoy learning from people here, at the end of the day this is just an internet forum and I would encourage anyone to share more sensitive information in private. The OP’s spiritual struggles aren’t our public concern.

*Again, I disagree. Surely it is the OP’s choice to share his struggles? We are here anonymously and are free to discuss whatever we choose to. Sometimes one cannot share openly with family and friends and by coming to these forums one comes across friends who are willing to offer assistance.

There are many different threads here and you are not obliged to participate in one where the topic does not please you.

Islam = peace. Bottoom line.

It actually discourages violence and jihad. Hence, it is peaceful.

I also don’t think one can say that it is a “false religion”. Afterall it is part of the three monotheistic religions.

What would you say then, if Muslims and Jews deemed Christianity as idolitary and thus a false religion?

After every page there is an English translation…(usually). The Qur’an is not ONLY to be read in Arabic–it is just recommended to be read in Arabic to understand it fully.

This is true. But this still doesn’t make Islam a false religion. The Catholic Church and state was the same thing in medieval times.

It the Middle Ages it was also a crime to question the Catholic Church. It also allowed death penalty.

The Catholic Church had its “reasons” then… now it realizes it was wrong.

Hopefully Islam will change…if it can.

I don’t think it is fair to critize Islam by giving reference to Islamic countries. There are many sects of Islam…

Yes but:

Muslims believe that Christians are commiting the sin of idolitary, [by believing in Trinity]no matter what they say.

Maybe even the Jews would also agree.

Yes, you could probably be Jewish and have salvation, provided you lived totally by the Old Law. Thus you would have to be an Orthodox, a Hasidic Jew.

Mohammed was just a man and Islam means nothing as regards salvation. That’s the truth.
Please explain what you meant by this?

So are you saying a Christian can get salvation by believing in Christ.
A Jew gets salvation by following the Old Law.

…but not a Muslim?!

Islam is a false religion because it denies who Jesus Christ is. Islam teaches that it was not Christ who died on the cross but another which they claim is what happen. They teach that the resurrection did not happen and what we teach about Jesus is a lie and a corruption. Mohammed according to their own records, started out killing people in his own tribe who rejected him and what he taught and it spread from there. One may wish for Islam to change but the core teachings of the Koran and the Hadiths are very violent and there is no moral equivalency between us and maybe some bad things that happen in the past and Islam and it’s violent teachings proven over and over again by its very history.
