A Priest once said in a homily to us, that he like the sound of a
crying Baby, and it meant that the Baby was Strong and Healthy,
so I guess it all depends on how you look at it.
I can also say that sometimes, I’d prefer there weren’t any song during the mass, because I can’t concentrate and pray.

Sometimes also, someone speaks to his wife, one coughs, another makes his chair grind, etc… we all are living beings made of bones and flesh, not statues, nor spiritual and ethereal beings. Babies are a part of the community’s life. Parents need also to go to the church as everybody does. So, I think the problem comes from people that can’t bear the presence of other’s offspring that should hear their own chair grinding, hear themselves speaking to their spouse or hear themselves coughing, before criticizing (maybe without a word, but only with their reproachful glance). I don’t judge anybody; I should be also thus sometimes… I’m human too.
I live in a big city and we have a subway. At some times of the day, people are really compressed in the coaches. Sometimes I hear people protesting because there are too many people around them. If they can’t bear traveling with other people, why don’t they take a taxi?

Likewise, if people can’t bear other’s presence and babies during the mass, why don’t they stay home or take a pill to calm themselves.

Sorry I’m a few provoking, but I think that charity begins by admitting the neighbor with all that comes with: noises, ugliness or beauty, children and behavior. And thus they also apply another virtue called patience…
