What if my priest errs in matters of faith and morals?

Maybe before refuting/rebuking what he said, open up a discussion to explore what he said. Maybe it wasn’t incorrect, just incomplete.

Not quite that simple! The priest acts in persona Christi - in the Person of Christ - just as Paul did in 2 Corinthians when he exercised his ministry of reconciliation.

Now, the statement may have been somewhat hyperbolic (remember that our Lord used hyperbole), but at certain times and in certain places, it was true. It was King David who pretty much popularized/perfected the concept of God as loving Father.

Anyone questioning what a priest preaches should/must go directly to him for an explanation. This is what Christ taught. I can’t think of a better way.

Really hard to say right or wrong when we probably have a misunderstanding and, in any case, possess exactly half the story.

A lot of it is a matter of languages. What did Adam and Eve do after they sinned? The hid! I don’t think God puts people in hell! Rather He allows them to act out their free choice. Unrepentant Mortal sinners will not be able to stand being in the presence of the Lord!

Some time ago, the priest of my parish gave an homily in wich he said that, before Jesus, people (meaning the Israel of the Old Testament) believed that God was a vengeful and severe being who punished and sent to Hell everyone who behaved badly, but Jesus finally tought us that God is all-loving and never punishes anyone
The key words here are ‘people believed’.

Is your Priest stating what he believes or what Old Testament peoples believed of God? Then is your Priest stating what he believes, or what New Testament peoples believe Jesus teaches?

What was the rest of the Homily?

You know that guy in the football stands who thinks he could call the plays better than the head coach? Same thing.
Not really really the same, not when it comes to matters of faith and morals.

You have to be able to trust your priest… if you don’t how can you trust him with your confessions, absolution, receiving the Eucharist, teaching the word of Christ… its not as unimportant at a football game, ‘THROW THE BALL’

You should always be comfortable talking to your priest about anything even if its to question what he says in his sermon… not that that wasn’t what everyone already advised… 🙂

its just sometimes it seems some priest are just bad is okay, to me that’s not acceptable. I need to be able to trust you… this isn’t a game.
